Discussion: Memorial Day Weather

Memorial Day

Humidity and mild temps (around 70⁰) today with perhaps another shower or two until this afternoon

A second line of heavier showers is forecast to come through the area this afternoon or evening. There is a slight chance of thunder with this afternoon's storms, and gusty winds are not out of the question. There is a very slight chance of hail and high winds.

Bill Walton was an amazing basketball player, both at UCLA and as a young pro, leading Portland to four straight victories over my 76ers in the 1977 NBA Finals after losing the first two games. That hurt.

Walton was also by all accounts a great guy. A few years ago he graciously posed for a photo with my son and a friend before calling a Pac 12 game. (His garrulous enthusiasm at the mic was a taste I never acquired, but lots of viewers loved him.)

An all-time athlete and character. May he rest in peace and love.

Discussion: The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

The fact that many now turn to Facebook and other social media for their news is part of the problem.  The erosion of the Fourth Estate proves its importance in keeping a democracy running.

It said Russia’s economy is growing faster. That’s not the same as doing better. Germany has a much larger economy, in absolute and per capita terms. The average German is healthier and wealthier than the average Russian. The gap between Germany and Russia is so large it would take a lot more than a few years of Russian growth and German stumbles to close it. If you disagree, take it up with math.

I think it's darker than that -- he understands perfectly well how trials work, and is purposely undermining trust in our justice system. You know that if he wins a second term, he'll be whining about how all the "criminals" he's having disappeared in the middle of the night have too many rights.

Yes, you are correct. His aim, and the aim of those who work for his candidacy, is to appeal to the ignorance of the voters he is targeting.

I'm not going to waste time refuting this obviously ridiculous Kyiv Post article about why Russia can't win.  Let's see if drummerboy accuses you of not being in reality. Ha!

I charged you with a very specific falsehood - which you conveniently simply ignored.

Morgan Spurlock, of "SuperSize Me" fame .. at 53, of cancer.  He opened such an important discussion about the dangers of fast food over-consumption in our country.  Though he later confessed to addiction to alcohol & some negative aspects of his sexual life that caused the results of his important experiment to be questioned --even rejected --by peers & critics, the importance of his raising awareness of the dangers of many Americans' diets should not be under-rated or ignored.  If he opened even a few eyes & caused customers AND the industry to make changes, that's a monumental achievement for which he deserves credit.

I did not ignore it.  I responded in detail. Why are you lying?

Perhaps you did not like my response - fair enough - but don't say I did not respond. (https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/subforum/what-does-putin-want-and-whatbout-it/politics-plus?page=next&limit=15300)

yeah. ok. if you think that's a response in detail, sure.

The actual fact is that you are repeating a phrase as if it's a phrase used by Ukraine supporters. The only response with any integrity is one that says "yes, sorry, I won't say that again"

That WSJ article is really about what Trump would do in a similar situation.  It isn't about what the Democrats might do.

Having said that the Biden campaign should tout his many achievements and not run on Trump's character.  If somebody doesn't think that Trump's character is disqualifying, there is nothing that Democrat's might say that will convince them otherwise.
