To ask it another way: You wouldn’t make each and every one of those concessions, if you had to, in order to save all the lives that have been lost on both sides of the war?
Would you be OK with Russia or China overthrowing our government and installing a puppet? Do you think it we should just be passive and accept that because someone might get hurt? How would you feel if your country was taken over for the benefit of another country?
I remember when people thought Trump was a Russian puppet and they were pretty pissed off.
Absolutely not. If Russia or China attempted a coup using NGOs and their intelligence agencies, I think the only rational defense would be to invade Canada.
As PVW has noted, even if we accept all of Nan's claims about U.S. actions in Ukraine (she has conveniently established that these need not be factual), it still does not justify Putin's War.
It's ok -- at some point in the future, someone on this thread might say something you find upsetting. In the face of such an existential threat to MOL, we understand you had no choice but to try and destroy this thread.
Just 2 more episodes and Young Sheldon is finished. Last night's show was a sad surprise to me. Next week will soften the ending. I will miss the great cast but there will be something in the fall. Especially enjoy the grandmother played by Annie Potts who I remember from that great show Designing Women.
Now I feel like we have been overly hard on Germany for the invasions that opened two world wars.
It’s impossible to read Tuchman without rooting for Germany against the existential threat it felt it faced.
To be fair, Germany was in a difficult position with a revanchist France on one side and an ever-expanding Russian Empire on the other.
Germany certainly made poor choices in 1914. As Tuchman notes, one of the most fascinating "what ifs" of the 20th Century is this:
What if Germany had defended against France without invading any countries and had, instead, focused on Russia?
Russia would have been knocked out of the war and would have lost a good deal of the Russian Empire. Nazi Germany would not have come to pass. We wouldn't recognize the world of today if in this alternative history.
