Survive and Advance - Men's Basketball Moves On!
Tonight - Seton Hall vs. Notre Dame

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sophomore Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Seton Hall built a huge second-half lead before barely holding off a furious Providence rally for a 109-106 victory in the first round of the Big East tournament Tuesday night.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Pirates. In addition to Pope's 27 points, sophomore Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) scored 21 points and dished out a team-high six assists.

In a breakneck game between two of the league's best offensive teams, the Pirates (19-11) opened a 76-47 advantage with about 13:30 to play. But the Friars (12-19), led by Jamine Peterson's 38 points and 16 rebounds, charged nearly all the way back and turned the final minutes into a frantic finish. Vincent Council's pull-up jumper cut it to 109-106 with about 8.5 seconds left. And after Jeff Robinson missed two free throws on the other end, Providence-incredibly-had a chance to tie. Duke Mondy missed a 3-pointer, however, leaving the Friars with 11 straight losses to end the season.

No.10 seed Seton Hall will play seventh-seeded Notre Dame tonight. Come watch the Big East Tornament action all day long - the best college men's league nationwide!

CHELSEA V WIGAN ATHLETIC
11:00am ET CTV (Bunny's Airtime)

Chelsea are unchanged!
That means a pacy three-man attack of Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou will be launched upon the Wigan defense.

Florent Malouda remains in midfield with Michael Ballack continuing in place of injured John Mikel Obi in the anchor role. Malouda and Lampard play their 50th Chelsea game of the season.

There is only one change to the defense from the Liverpool game. Nemanja Matic replaces Deco.

For Wigan, heavily-criticised Serb international keeper Vladimir Stojkovic is dropped with Mikel Pollitt coming in. Wide midfielder Charles N'Zogbia returns from injury.

Chelsea is expected to line up in a 4-3-3 formation.

Come down and enjoy a cold brew while watching a good match-up.. On the road to the World Cup!

5/29 (Sat, 2pm ET) ... Turkey - Friendly [ESPN2 and Galavision]

Thanks, 6/5 may have been tough to do! If you don't mind the prejudicial TV ads that may run, sure!

I love the way Danish beer company Carlsberg is exhorting the English team by tugging at their "Englishness." Good thing Denmark and England aren't in the same group. Hilarious.

Come to think of it, you guys should sponsor a World Cup of beers. I would like to see Heineken beat the crap out of Peroni (which has a flavor that dives like an Olympian and always leaves a bitter aftertaste).

The U.S. Men's National Team has been drawn into Group C with England, Slovenia and Algeria for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The U.S. will open its sixth consecutive World Cup finals tournament against England on June 12 in Rustenburg, and will follow that game with matches against Slovenia on June 18 in Johannesburg and Algeria on June 23 in Tshwane/Pretoria.

PRINCETON PREP: The U.S. team spent the first week of camp training at Princeton University in New Jersey where U.S. head coach Bob Bradley ran the team through an excellent week that focused mostly on fitness. There was one day of inclement weather, but otherwise the U.S. camp was extremely smooth and productive as several players worked through their final stages of rehabilitation to overcome injuries. The U.S. team left Princeton, Bradley’s alma mater, on May 23 to take its next steps towards South Africa with a match against the Czech Republic at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.

I WANT TO GO!! But I can't, AI finale is same time and here we can record both and switch back and forth.

Dang.

It's time to rumble. No matter where you sit to watch the games let us give thanks to a sport that truly has world wide acceptance, athleticism and appreciation.

The Road to South Africa

Dubbed English football's ‘golden generation', only to fall flat at UEFA EURO 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™, South Africa 2010 may well be the last chance of international silverware for some of the most well-known faces in the world game.

However, the appointment of Fabio Capello appears to have brought fresh vigour to the Three Lions' squad, many of whom have a point to prove after lacklustre displays when it mattered most under Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren. With the tournament due to take place in the South African winter, conditions which should suit the English players and style, so excuses will be at a premium should Wayne Rooney and Co fall short once more.

10:00am ET Johannesburg, Slovenia vs. USA
2:30pm ET Cape Town, England vs. Algeria

USA
Players dismissed a prediction of victory by Slovenian midfielder Andrej Komac ahead of their 2010 FIFA World Cup™ match on Friday, a game the Americans cannot afford to lose.

Slovenia took the Group C lead with a 1-0 triumph over Algeria while England and the US, the favourites to advance, played to a 1-1 draw. A Slovenian victory over the Americans in Johannesburg will send them into the last 16.

"We are going to win this match," Komac said on Tuesday after a practice session. US goalkeeper Tim Howard responded on Wednesday by basically asking Komac to put his football skills where his mouth is.

England
The team faces a must-win encounter with Algeria on Friday as they seek to restore confidence in their ability to make an impact at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Fabio Capello's team go into the Group C game in Cape Town under considerably more pressure than they would want after drawing 1-1 with the USA in Rustenburg on Saturday.

Capello will definitely be without Ledley King, who has a groin strain, but they should be boosted by the return of midfielder Gareth Barry from an ankle injury. The team has also been lifted by star striker Wayne Rooney and Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole's return to training on Tuesday, with the duo having been restricted to gym and pool work after picking up knocks in the opening game.

Captain Steven Gerrard acknowledged that England must win both of their remaining games. "It would have been nice to start with three points but we conceded a goal at a bad time after going ahead," said the Liverpool star, who scored four minutes into their game with the USA. "It was a shock and a setback to concede but I think we played okay. The target now has got to be seven points."

Algeria coach Rabah Saadane expects his players to give their all. "England are a superb team. I put them among my favourites. There will be very little change against them in terms of personnel, maybe one or two," he said.
