Groundhog Day - any other movies that you watch over and over?

I rarely plan ahead when I end up watching a movie, unless it's on TCM, since I get their little TV-guide like magazine so I can see what's coming up for the month (that magazine seems so quaint these days). Even then I'll just dvr it rather than watch it when it airs.

What I do use is the favorites channel feature of Comcast, which I loaded up with all of the movie channels, so when I turn the TV on I flip through the favorites to see what's playing.

I don't either. I channel surf, and there are many movies that I just stop and watch whenever they're on.

Have to add My Cousin Vinny! The scene with Marisa Tomei on the witness stand is great! She won Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for that movie.

+1

I don't usually watch movies on regular TV. But these are movies I'll stream on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon. Some I have on DVD.

I'm surprised to see so many people still watch movies on TV. I would never think to do that, and I have no idea what is airing when.

Swingers! Here's the most cringeworthy scene.

Recently I also enjoyed In Bruges - I've seen that a number of times.

At risk of repeating:

Godfather I

Godfather II

GoodFellas

Stripes

History of the World Part I

Blues Brothers

Airplane

Yeah, I'm with you on a bunch of these. No harm in repeating - it's interesting to see people's individual lists.

On your list, I'm with you on 1,2 3 and 7. Not so much on the others, though I think they're good (except for Stripes - think I saw it once, so I just don't know it)

Never get tired of Airplane.

Oh yes. Farrell, Gleason and Fiennes all brilliant.

That was a great movie, but it's not one I really want to watch again.

Funny how that works.

There are a few that even though there is that "aha" moment the first time one sees them, they are still enjoyable again - e.g., Memento, Usual Suspects... Usual Suspects is especially fun on repeat to see the interactions with Spacey and Chazz...

Labyrinth!

And, of course, Princess Bride.

Sixth Sense is another one like that.

And, yes, Usual Suspects is one of the greats.

As far as re-watching--how many times have we watched the Rocky movies, in whole or in part?!

What About Bob? is another fun movie to re-watch.

"What About Bob?" for some reason reminds me of "Multiplicity" - an underrated comedy and great performance(s) by Michael Keaton...

What about Bob, Mr. Holland's Opus, Close Encounters, -- all with Richard Dreyfuss

I really have a hard time watching anything with Ben Stiller although I did enjoy there's something about Mary.

Another one I've seen over and over again

Speaking of Jim Carrey - The Mask is one I enjoy rewatching.

This is one great list of movies!

Putney Swope, Buckaroo Bonzai, Shawshank, Blazing Saddles, Network, Baghdad Cafe, Bulworth, any pre Hollywood John Woo, all Kurosawa

...and I've been known to watch trailers of movies that Eva Mendes might be in.

(fwiw: Monday 3/27 12:05am Encore "Children of the Corn V" starring Ms. Mendes)

There are a few Coen Brothers movies I can watch over and over again. The obvious one being the big lebowski. But also a serious man, faego, and raising arizona (best chase scene in cinema history).

Oddly, Jesse Eisenberg is in a couple. I can watch the hell out of Adventureland. If there was a Zombieland Channel that showed Zombieland 24x7 I'd never leave the house.

Others include Used Cars, Slap Shot, Glengarry Glenross, and the new Mad Max.

All That Jazz.

Lawrence of Arabia

Das Boot

Gandhi

Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns (Don't ask why. I don't know. But I enjoy the hell out of them.)

African Queen ( I own a model of the Queen. I was even more interested in the movie when I found it was based on an actual event. The Queen was located about 15 years ago)

The Third Man... but try getting that ear worm out of your head.

Saturday Night Fever

Glengarry Glenross is one I come back to a lot. The performances and dialog are so good.

Zombieland too.

This thread proves very valuable. And I agree about Coen brothers movies. Those guys are absolute masters. My favorite is probably O Brother Where Art Thou. It is mindblowing.

A few others I've re-watched recently:

The Lives of Others

Signs

Il Postino

Dr Strangelove

Formerlyjerseyjack - Re: the African Queen, you might like this (or you might already know all of it)

I can never pass up On The Waterfront.

But I think there might be a divide between the movies that we love that are rarely played and the ones that are on constantly yet we get drawn into them in bits and pieces. In that category I would place A Few Good Men. Hard to resist the line "You can't handle the truth!" and that line feels particularly appropriate this political cycle.

I've seen Black Dynamite and Kung-Fu Hustle a ton as well

Repo Man

Vertigo

Maltese Falcon

Fight Club

I gotta say ---

a lot of people have mentioned the Coen brothers movies here. I've always been very mixed about the Coens. Some stuff is great (I can watch Fargo a hundred times), but a lot I just don't get. Dunno what I'm missing exactly.

I saw O Brother years and years ago, and remember liking it, but not much more. I'm watching it again tonight and lord almighty hallelujah!! - what a great movie! I mean - freaking sublime.

So maybe I just have to wait 10-15 years between viewings to get it.
