Cait and abbys refuses to toast bagels!

Bagels shouldn't be toasted anyway. But some places don't toast anything and thats ok with me.

I find it interesting how so many people don't eat their bagels toasted. I always toast mine with peanut butter or hot pepper jack cheese and red pepper flakes. Why eat plain bread? The bagels even smell better when toasted. grin

A hot, fresh bagel with a crisp exterior and a chewy interior does not need to be altered.

They do? Boycott Bunny's!

I'm into altering everything so I usually make my breakfast at home. Had spicy hot mustard greens with spicy naan for breakfast the other day, and I should have toasted it as well.

Cate and Abby's regular people are often rude and abrupt with you. If they don't toast find another place that will. just like Starbucks was taking too long to make my coffee i complained several times to the manager and when no action was taken I took my business elsewhere.
Customer service has to be the primary goal when in that industry- along with quality.

dropped ball

You have no business selling bagels if you can't toast them. They're right next to the train station -- they know they've cornered the market and don't care. The rude "no toast" reply indicates a lot of people ask, so it's a reasonable expectation.

Um, yeah.

You have no business ordering bagels if you insist they be toasted....

Not sure I agree, ligeti. It is unreasonable and unfair to position your brand as offering something (toasted, fast, fresh, whatever) and then not deliver. However, if the "whatever" isn't in the "brand promise," it's fair for the store to say "no." If it's true the employee was rude, that's another discussion, no excuse for that.

I'd argue same with above reference to Starbucks customer complaining about speed. Look closely at Starbucks marketing. They position their products with regard to quality, green-consciousness, treatment of staff and overall culture etc. "Fast" has never been used or promised in their marketing.

It's reasonable to expect and want these things, but just as reasonable for the store to say, "sorry, don't have that."

In the morning, I am in no mood for businesses that do not acknowledge my needs.

Maybe you need to needlessly change your needs, need I say more?

Not sure if it is still there but one of my favorite bakery signs is at Columbus Bakery on Upper West Side. It shows "Mr. Toasty," which is a piece of toast, smiling and walking, and (why not?) wearing a little hat. He's also holding a little baguette.

I imagine if you have Mr. Toasty out front, you have to toast.

More on my needs: every morning, the Cate and Abby staff are annoyed with me because I politely ask for just a little bit of cream cheese (not a fat, oozing glop) and insist on approving the final product.

If they ignore me -- which they often do -- I tell them to take half of it off. They glare at me. As I see it, they'd save themselves a lot of time and frustration if they'd just do what I ask. Who knows, it might involve a tip, too.

Toasting a bagel has moved from a "want" to a "need"...

The WATBs "need" to stop by Rite Aid and pick up some tissues.

If Cait & Abby's doesn't have a toaster, it's not so much that they "refuse" to toast, but they can not.

Do they have a toaster and simply refuse to use it to toast bagels?

(Thanks for the Jack Nicholson treat, nohero! I love findout out about old movies that I've never seen and now want to!)

I don't follow you -- why would I want it if I didn't need it?

Ask yourself that one.

Are you missing an emoticon, O Ironic One?

NO BAGEL FOR YOU. COME BACK ONE YEAR.

Maybe everyone who wants a toasted C & A bagel can chip in, go to KALM and buy a toaster (if he sells them, I am not sure) then stash it somewhere so they can toast their C & A bagel.
