2024 GQP Presidential Hopefuls - Who's The Trumpiest Of Them All?

Lindsay also said Donny is excited about 2022 and he's going down soon to play golf with him.

The GOP deserves Trump - I wish he was out of the news, but I don't see that happening soon.  The news could tone down on the legal action speculation.

Well his supporters are really liking the idea of a “patriot” party. They can break away from the republicans, and again reabsorb inside the Republican Party, just like the libertarians did.
Romney could be a very serious contender for the republicans. That would be an interesting scenario. I would actually like to see that.

As Republicans double down on Trumpism, their odds of winning elections go down but the severity of the consequences if they do win goes up.

Richard Burr is not running for re-election in 2022. It looks like Lara Trump, who is from N.C., will run to fill his seat and if she does run will probably win.

Ivanka may run for Rubio's seat in 2022, and if she does she will probably win.

In both cases, Trump is more of a positive factor than a negative.  It's Graham vs. McConnell and I think the Graham side will win. Time will tell. I will be delighted if they don't win and someone reminds me of this post in 2022.

Do you mean win the primary, or the general?

As for Graham vs McConnell, Graham's side is whoever he thinks the Republican top dog is. See how quickly the ran away from Trump and then back to him following Jan. 6, as he tried to figure out if Trump was out or still in charge.

Lara Trump lives in New York State presently. She would have to move down to NC to run for senate.
as for Lindsay.... he tests the political wind with his middle finger.

Both. I think that if Lara Trump runs,  and I'm pretty sure that she will run, she will be the new  senator from North Carolina.

The same with Ivanka. Trump is wildly popular in Florida. I think I read somewhere that if Ivanka decides to run Rubio would not seek re-election. Even if he does, I think Ivanka will win in a primary.

Becoming a resident of NC in order for her to run for senator is no big deal. All that North Carolina requires it that a person be a resident by the date of the general election - there isn't even any amount of time required.

Candidates must be:

NC is a very polarized, closely divided state. I think a Trump run there would be far from a shoe-in.

I hope you're right. I'm counting on my wife's cousin and his wife who live in Durham.

For what it's worth, Lara Trump grew up in North Carolina and went to college there.

As Trump holdings are investigated, wouldn't that interfere with both Lara and Ivanka's chances? Selfishly I was hoping to be done with all news of this family so I could adopt an optimistic outlook for the future. Seeing two women that I loathe get political power is not going to make that easy.

"Representative Patrick McHenry, a Republican who represents the Greensboro area, downplayed the importance of Mr. Burr’s vote but said Ms. Trump would “be the odds-on favorite” if she runs. (He's talking about the primary.)

“No one comes close,” he said."

Our country is so-o-o-o effed up.

NC GQP voted tonight to censure Senator Burr for voting to convict Trump.

They bring the insults upon themselves with this nonsense.

Morganna - I don't think it will make any difference. I share your dismay - I can't stand either of them.

What's next, Kellyanne Conway and Kayliegh McEnany for the Senate? Melania Trump running for anything?  Trust me @cramer, I'm way past dismay. I've crossed over to doom.

At least one person from N.C. has hope:

"Lara Trump is a former personal trainer and television producer who currently lives in the New York City suburbs. Obviously she’s not qualified to be a U.S. Senator, but the threat of her running in the future shouldn’t cloud our judgement about the past. Sen. Burr was a Trump loyalist who survived a financial scandal by keeping a low profile. He is hardly representative of the swing state’s historical embrace of moderate candidates. While the GOP fights over its future identity, my hope is that North Carolinians will remember that we have, and indeed have often embraced, other options."

eta - I'm off to more productive and important things, like getting my second COVID vaccine shot on Thurs. I don't know if I'm ready for the re-entry - it's going to be strange.

“The swing state’s historical embrace of moderate candidates.”

Abigail Covington, the writer, may be too young to remember that Jesse Helms didn’t leave office until 2003. North Carolina’s history of embracing moderates, even within the past decade, is mixed.

Arguably, but for a few text messages NC would have given the Democrats their 51st vote in the Senate. I don't know how moderate NC is, but it certainly seems very electorally competitive.

I’m betting that anyone associated with the Trump name will be defeated. It’s a losing brand.

Yeah, the Trump name hasn't been real successful in pulling out majorities so far. He's far from an electoral powerhouse.

I'm pretty sure the GOP can find someone without the Trump name who's just as good at trolling the libs.

Nikki Haley is trying to play the anti-cancel-culture/overt-patriotism party line, while not caring if her tweets are not the most accurate. Seems very GOP:

Wow, that's a really inaccurate tweet from Nikki Haley about George Washington.

She left out the part where he discovered electricity.
