I’ll have to agree.
I really appreciate that he expanded (instead of replacing) the playlist.
I really, really enjoyed last night's show of Live from Here with Chris Thile. He had on John Prine who had a wonderful original song. There was a comic and a female singer whose name I cannot remember or find who delivered Janis Joplin's Mercedes Benz with the same kind of intensity as Joplin. I can't listen to the show regularly, but I think it is starting to find itself. It isn't PHC, but then again, it shouldn't try to be.
I couldn't stand Schwartz's affectations. Maybe some time I will listen to Cavalconte.
Here's a thread mashup coincidence. I was just on the road and turned on WFUV. A James Hunter 6 song came on. That's a group that will be appearing at Rent Party, as discussed/promoted in another thread. I kept listening and realized the DJ wa Cavalconte. He has a regular gig on FUV. And its an excellent show.
God, what a mess, on the ladder of success
Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung
Was hoping this was a discussion of an appearance on WNYC by the band The Replacements. Color me disappointed.
I used the lowercase "r" to avoid confusion. Sorry if your Unsatisfied.
Based on last night's set, I think you will likely hear Mats and Westerberg tunes on Cavalconte's FUV show.

I gave up on Prairie Home Companion when Garrison left. He was and is PHC. I don't know what the show is now and I'm not interested.
But I'm liking Paul Cavalconte as the replacement for J. Schwartz. Apart from the lack of Schwartz's annoying affectations - an acquired taste (or tune out) at best - I like what he's playing. He's definitely broader and more interesting than Schwartz on pop/rock stuff.
