Watching the SBGame next week on an airplane

Going to be on a United flight cross country next Sunday for the SBowl (yes, I'm in the dog house): can anyone tell me if my family will be able to watch the game via United Wi Fi?

Depends on the plane. Many (most?) United cross country flights have DirectTV.

Not a traveler myself, but will share my son’s experience on a Virgin America flight to the West Coast during the Eagles-Falcons playoff game. (We’re an Eagles family.) First, there’s this caveat that I just spotted on Gizmodo.com:

Here’s a hard truth: All in-flight wifi sort of sucks. First of all, you can’t know exactly what kind of wifi your plane will offer until you know your flight number. Then, even if you fly on an airline that promises wifi on all flights, each plane has different equipment installed. And even then, there’s a chance that equipment could be broken. You can check your flight’s wifi status on the airline’s website before you book or head to the airport. Then, you just have to hope for the best.

My son texted me during his flight that TV was unavailable and wifi was limited to messaging with occasional score notifications. So I sent him play-by-play texts during the final three minutes of the game. It was fun, and needless to say he had a happy landing.

you don't need wifi if there's direct tv. If it's wifi only and you have any thought you can stream it, I'd agree with the above. It sucks and you won't be able to.

While it can always change, if you click on your flight now, you can see the kind of plane it is supposed to be and the entertainment system on board.

I have found it somewhat uncommon for United flights to have the Direct Tv. From their website: DIRECTV + Hit Movies are available on select Boeing 737 and 757-300 aircraft

The United WiFi Service dies not permit or support streaming. If the flight has DirectTV, then you can probably see the game that way.

thank you all. it looks like directTV is on our flight (assuming no equipment changes) and the Yahoo Sports app is downloaded for the moment when we dash from one flight to the other. as good as it is going to get.
