Visiting Liberty State Park w/kids

We were just there two weeks ago and the playground was in excellent shape and we actually commented that the next time we go back we should bring a picnic lunch for all of those picnic tables. Enjoy!
Don't know how old your kids are, but it's a great place to ride bikes. There are paths, but there's also the waterfront. Scooters, etc, are great fun there. It's a great park and will be super beautiful today!
The traffic going across the bridge is terrible today. Everything merges down into one lane going east.

Thinking of visiting this park in Jersey City. I saw pictures of the park online and it looks nice. My main questions are 1. Is it still in decent shape? and 2. Is it okay to picnic near the playground? We'll have a few kids under 5 and would like to just spend the day on a blanket near the playground. Any info/advice/tips appreciated, thanks!
