I don’t have any specific recommendation or answer to your question other than to say Inwoukd think twice about making changes to a system that keeps you locked into a contract and monthly fees for monitoring. With the ubiquity of wireless internet connected equipment I have to believe the business model for alarm systems is changing.

So, our house alarm came with the house 15 years ago and we’ve been happy with the company. But, I’m thinking it would make sense to upgrade the system and according to the rep, the smoke detectors must be upgraded too. In fact, the rep said smoke detectors should be replaced every 5/6 years. Does anyone know if that’s true? The added cost of replacing them is $50, but I’m curious if what the rep said is accurate.
Thanks.
