The Fall TV Season

Haven't watched it all yet - but things I like:

NCIS - yes, it isn't new - but there was a shake up in the cast and I didn't think I'd like the new folk - I do.

Bull - Interesting show - good first outing - I'll watch it again.

Designated Survivor - didn't disappoint - may be the best of the new offerings

Speechless - hysterical - but my daughter (who has a child with multiple disabilities) is that mom so maybe I see things others may not.

So how about you? What have you enjoyed (or not)?

completely agree on all 3. I don't watch NCIS but felt the same about the other 3 you mentioned. Kiefer Sutherland is such a fantastic actor.

I watched Designated Survivor. Pretty good so far. A few things that I didn't like such as the stereotypical general that is already scheming to overthrow the President and the "war room" straight out of Dr. Strangelove.

I tried to watch the new Ted Danson "comedy" (Good Place?) and had to turn it off after 15 minutes. Horrible!

All those commercials turned me off from even wanting to watch Speechless.

I'm boycotting all things related to Dr. Phil after watching those horrible Burke Ramsey/JonBenet shows. He lost any credibility I may have had left for him.

Nothing else new on network TV interests me.

dr Phil had credibility?!?? Lol

I thought the concept of Bull was fascinating and I never knew Dr Phil did this before all his Oprah fame. I can see it getting old quick though.

I'm on the fence on the Danson/Bell show. I was excited about it but it fell flat. The hour format was too long. The one last night was a little better.

My wife and I are not comedy fans, but we like Ted Danson and love Kristen Bell, so we decided to give The Good Place a try. About halfway through the first episode we were kind of shocked how much we were enjoying it. And then about halfway through the second episode I was almost ready to shoot myself in the head.

I said that to my co-worker this morning - thought Bull was great, but I wasn't sure if the premise could be sustained throughout a series. Too bad - I really like Weatherly in pretty much anything - even the early series with Jessica Alba.

Didn't like the Danson show at all - agree an hour is too long.

I really liked her "soulmate" (Cheti?) in the Good Place. At least it's not another carbon copy of a million other sitcoms.

I like The Good Place so far. I think they made a mistake in playing 2 episodes back to back on the first night. 30 minutes is perfect.

No one watched This is Us?

My co-worker loved This is Us - I'll watch it on the DVR - it conflicted with Speechless and I watched that - maybe you have to have a special needs person in your family to truly appreciate it.

I liked Speechless although Minnie Driver needs to dial it back a bit. I was happy that it looks like Cedric Yarbrough will be playing a bigger part.

agree on speechless. I liked it especially the kid and yes on Cedric! I am not a Minnie Driver fan at all and I am not sure she fits the role but we'll see. Her last show wasn't very good but she was ok in it- the quirky bit fit her well. This role- not so much.

I am absolutely in love with "This is Us". So beautiful and touching. Love it!

REALLY wanted to like "Speechless", but I just don't. Too contrived for me. I understand the issues of special needs, but the acting is stilted IMHO.

Like "The Good Place" okay (thought it was great at first, but wearing a little thin rather quickly).

Liked "Bull" the 1st episode, but thought the 2nd was too similar, and stopped watching 1/2 way through. Won't watch again.

Watched "American Housewife" tonight and it was okay. I'll give it another spin because it's another show that I really want to like.

Do not like "Kevin Can Wait" very much, which is a bummer, because I was hoping it would be 'hilarious!'.

LOVE "This Is Us" which is weird for me, because dramas aren't high on my list, but this is probably my fave show of the season.

Westworld is pretty good!

did that start already?!? That looked really intriguing.

Hated American Housewife. Love Kevin James but the show is weak. I was just thinking that Katie Mixon would have been a good wife to Kevin James- maybe would have made that a better show. She's great but her show just seemed really mean- spirited to me.

Speechless took a nosedive for me last week - hated the whole show. So I'll be moving over to This Is Us, which, so far, is just enchanting.

Isn't it? So beautiful. I LOVE the man playing Randall- such a treasure!

I'm loving Designated Surivor, but I'm surprised at how much I like the TV version of Lethal Weapon. The writing and character development are much more interesting than I expected from a movie-turned-TV-show.

I wanted to love Conviction because I like Hayley Atwell so much, but I'm finding it contrived and forced. Sad to say, I think Atwell is miscast in that.

I like Notorious but am not quite convinced it will go the distance.

Two time-travel shows (Timeless and Frequency) leave me on the fence. I like the plots of Timeless but find it a little precious so far. Frequency's concept has potential, but not sure I like the execution.

Loving The Exorcist and Queen Sugar. Both are well written / smart with great characters and the cinematography on both are top notch.

I was late to the game for This Is Us but just watched the three episodes this week. I love it. The actress who plays Kate is Phenomenal and certainly doesn't fit stereotypical actor proportions, so to speak. I didn't like her singing voice particularly this week. Love how it goes back and forth in time. I have great hopes for the show

I'm enjoying Designated Survivor, Westworld, The Exorcist, and Lethal Weapon. (I wonder, though, if any of these could go a second season without getting repetitious.)

But have to depart from the apparent consensus here on This Is Us. I watched the first episode, mainly because I was a big fan of Parenthood. But that pilot episode did not encourage me to watch any more. Found it too predictable (especially the ending) and not very believable (especially the father-son thing and the ending). Yes, it tugs at the heartstrings, but I couldn't buy into two of the subplots. But that's just me.

I like Queen Sugar, too! Watching Bull, Exorcist, Conviction, Good Place, and American Housewife. I love Kristen Bell and Katy Mixon, so I'm giving those a chance. Tried Kevin, but it was too bad to warrant a second episode. Reserving Judgement about Conviction. Also like Timeless (so far), and Designated Survivor. I think I like Timeless because I get to learn about history, like New Amsterdam years ago. I've recorded This is Us, but haven't gotten to it yet. Notorious is kind of awful, but I like Piper Perabo, so I'm trying that one, too. We'll see which ones languish on my DVR in the coming weeks...

On your and others' recommendation I watched This is Us and loved, loved it

Have to add American Horror Story. Loving the new twist on the way the new story is being told. If you dig the ID Channel's recreations with a little scare, this is for you.

This is Us is my favorite new show.

Me too. I love it. Cant believe how invested in the characters I was after just a few minutes. It nearly broke my heart when "grandma and grandpa" showed up at Randall's door. Can't wait to see what happened.
