Trump shot at rally?

Media get it wrong?  Na!

Yup, the person typing headlines at the CNN website worked with incomplete information less than one minute after they heard that Trump had been rushed off the stage.

Remember, today everyone is going to be bemoaning violent rhetoric.

and this guy will be speaking at the RNC. I wonder if they'll let him speak from his heart?

This act is the logical conclusion for the left and the deep state.

Deep state or nation of more guns than people? Both candidates need to stump from the Pope-mobile from now on.

Is your theory that the gun acted alone?  The lone gun theory.

Are any of those authors opposed to the domination of US policy by the military-industrial-intelligence complex? If not, they are not part of the "left".

Maybe center left?  I mean, I hear and respect you.  But, to me it seems like by your definition the left is a very small number of people.  It seems like those who question the MIC and the Intelligence community are increasingly from "the right".

I always struggled with the left/right paradigm.

No guns, no mass gun shootings. You're catching on.

this whole "guns don't kill" rationale is so brain-dead.

but the promoters of it are so sure that they've got the ultimate gotcha.  they think they're so clever.

Firearms have been around for somewhere between 800 and 1000 years (depending on which authority you choose).  The goal of no guns is an illusory goal and an impossibility.   Additionally,  firearms are easily fabricated at home.   Or, smuggled in from other countries. Or, stolen from military and police storehouses and their personnel. Finally,  claiming that abolition of a fundamental right (namely, right to bear arms) will solve a problem is a perilous way forward.  Just my two cents.

Link to homemade 50 caliber rifle:

Link to homemade shotgun:

It's legal to obtain a gun in Japan, but their screening and wait times make it less likely some rando can get one and walk into a school the next day. Most nations have better control methods.

There's QAnon and then there's BlueAnon -- conspiracy theories promoted by Democrats and pro-Democratic corporate media, often hatched by intelligence agencies, as exemplified by Russiagate and its 2024 incarnations. Here's some BlueAnon on the attempted Trump assassination from an adviser to one of the Democrats' top donors (spoiler alert: Putin did it):

If we genuinely want to end the culture of political violence in America, we must begin by acknowledging that the target of Saturday’s attack in Pennsylvania is also one of the most dangerous advocates for such violence this country has ever seen.

The right to own a gun is perhaps the most preposterous right ever granted by a government. (and please don't tell me about ensuring the people's right to fight against their own government when it becomes too tyrannical. No government, including ours, has ever done that. It is a myth.)

And the fact that we have more guns than people is significant. I'm pretty sure that we're the only country in the history of the universe to have this situation.

But sure, ignore it.

you're really reaching here. conspiracy theories that do not see the light of day , like this one, are not conspiracy theories. it's just some guy saying a thing. which he then retracted.

some guy said a thing is not a conspiracy theory.

Shooter was a registered Republican.

This is going to complexify a lot of conspiracy theory stategeries.

Yep.

NYTimes: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/us/politics/trump-gunman-thomas-crooks.html

Here’s What Is Known About the Suspect Who Tried to Assassinate Trump
Authorities identified the gunman as a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pa., a town about an hour’s drive from the site of the shooting.

"Investigators were scouring his online presence and working to gain access to his phone, but so far had not found indications of strongly held political beliefs. In fact, the clues he left behind were confusing: He was a registered Republican but had also donated to a progressive cause in 2021; his parents were registered as a Democrat and Libertarian."

...

"Two former classmates who attended Bethel Park High School with the gunman said they had not noticed any obvious warning signs.

One of the classmates, Zach Bradford, said he had taken American history and government classes with him, that Mr. Crooks appeared to be “incredibly intelligent” and that his views in high school seemed “slightly right leaning.” Mr. Bradford said he remembered a couple of instances in which classmates gave Mr. Crooks a hard time, but he was shocked when he heard that Mr. Crooks had been identified as the shooter."

Trump tried to fake the results of the presidential election. Do you think staging an incident like this is beyond the realm of possibility? I'm not saying it was faked, but I also believe Trump would do anything to get elected.

Latest version is:
https://www.newsweek.com/police-officer-found-trump-shooter-thomas-matthew-crooks-roof-minutes-before-shooting-report-1925027

Although Crooks' movements and motive leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, he was said to be positioned on top of a roof of a building nearby the rally with a rifle when he began shooting.

According to the AP, who spoke to two law enforcement officials on condition of anonymity, rallygoers noticed a man climbing to the top of the roof of the nearby building and warned local law enforcement.

This is when one local officer climbed to the roof and confronted Crooks, who pointed his rifle at the officer. The officer retreated down the ladder as Crooks quickly took a shot toward Trump who was speaking on stage and that's when the U.S. Secret Service counter-snipers shot him, the AP reported.

Newsweek has reached out to the Pennsylvania State Police, the FBI, the Secret Service, and the Butler Police Department via email for comment.

What are we to make of this?

BlackRock said on Sunday that it had removed from circulation the ad, which features scenes filmed in the classroom of an economics teacher at Bethel Park High School.

The gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was a senior at the school in 2022 and appears onscreen twice during the 30-second spot. He is seen sitting at a classroom desk, wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, and does not speak. The advertisement, titled “AP and Honors Economics,” was part of a series of television and online ads, begun in the fall of 2022, that BlackRock hoped would explain the company’s work to the broader public. The ad set at Bethel Park High School included an onscreen graphic promoting BlackRock’s oversight of retirement plan assets for public school teachers. It concluded with a slogan, “Invested in the Future of Americans.”

Exactly. A real conspiracy theory isn't immediately tamped down by the person who you think is pushing it. As the article says, the same person sent a follow-up: “Last night, I sent an email I now regret. It was drafted and sent without consultation from team members or allies. I have apologized to them directly. I also want to apologize publicly, without reservation, for allowing my words to distract from last night’s central fact: political violence took yet another innocent American life last night. We must unite in condemnation of such violence in every instance, without reservation. Any other topic is a distraction. I am grateful that those injured last night appear to be on the path to full recovery. Again, I apologize, and wish I had reacted as thoughtfully as Reid Hoffman this morning.”

If we assume that the Secret Service and local PDs are infallible, then it must have been a conspiracy.  I find it rather easier to believe that all of these organizations have their fair share of incompetence.

It sounds like incompetence to me.  I am surprised that the police didn't put officers on the roofs of nearby buildings if for no other reason than to keep an eye on things.

overly simplistic, but sure, fair enough, as far as it goes. but then you're a "guns don't kill, people do" guy, so simplicity is your thing. and you think the twitter files is a thing too.

and don't forget I'm for taxation too, which we all know is theft.

btw, just to be clear, I never said that people shouldn't be able to own guns. It should simply be highly regulated, as most of the rest of the world does it. The ability to own a gun should be established legislatively, not constitutionally. Enshrining it as a right (and under a ridiculously worded constitutional amendment) just leads to mischief, as we have seen by the way the courts and gun industry have turned the 2A into a mockery of its original intent, and consequently turned us into a gun-ridden hellhole.
