It can help get some people off of the fence and motivate others to get out an vote.
I made the joke with my family that yes, it’s over now. But I do believe this may actually have an effect. Especially if she makes a campaign appearance at a rally in the suburbs of Philly, for instance.
While I have no doubt that some Swift fans will be dismayed and throw their “1989” CDs in the fire, I think she’s in a pretty good position to weather that storm.
Are we supposed to think that Taylor Swift was on the fence until she watched this debate? It's another superficial media play with the "spontaneous" timing so obviously planned well in advance.
Yes, I know I'm just stating the obvious.

No, Nan, it's just you who think the rest of us thought Taylor Swift was on the fence.

who thinks it was "spontaneous"?
You're getting lazy with your conspiracy theorizing.
I thought she might have been on the fence about announcing an endorsement, but had no doubt about who she supported.
Here is the best thing that she had to say, in my opinion. It really speaks to what I have been harping on, which is getting young people registered and interested.
“I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story.”
She made her case for why she is choosing to vote for Harris/Walz. She issued the call for people to do their own research into issues and policies. And then she told people to go register, and said she would follow up with information about how to do so. I really hope that she does just that, and post links to how to register as a voter

Had to wait until she got the all clear from her WEF handler.

Yes, you all seem to be major experts on Taylor Swift. I bow down. Except for a few huge hits, I don’t even know what her music sounds like. Not a fan. Did not think she cared about politics. Wonder if she will regret endorsing one side when she probably has fans on both.

do you really wonder?
And if you do, are you suggesting Swift be "canceled?"

Her last such push got a quick 35,000 to register. She definitely irked Trump when she announced her support for Biden in 2020.
"I spoke to @vmagazine about why I’ll be voting for Joe Biden for president. So apt that it’s come out on the night of the VP debate. Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the tv a lot. And I also have custom cookies"
This would be a better argument if the guy at the top of your ticket wasn't a self-described "billionaire celebrity".

Yup. Plus she actually spelled out some reasons for her choice. And she encouraged people to do their research and make a choice based on the facts.
and maybe it warrants its own thread to talk about people who love cats and people who don't.
I don't mean that as a dog vs. cat thing. I love dogs (doesn't everyone?).
but not everyone loves cats. They are strange, quirky animals, and the cat people know that and accept them as they are.
Donald Trump would never in a trillion years be a cat person.

I don’t even think trump has a goldfish when he was a child… the man just doesn’t strike me as someone who would take care of another living creature.

Look, we make fun, but seriously just hours before Swift posted that endorsement, The Grauniad actually posted this - https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/sep/10/is-taylor-swift-a-trump-supporter-internet-theories

No, I don't like cancelling in general. But others might.

I doubt Taylor cares.
Lots of Trumpers have canceled Springsteen and he's doing ok.

I have no idea what Taylor thinks about anything except she likes those Scottish Fold Cats with the mushed faces and drooped ears. Your cat is 10X cuter!
But, I got curious and I googled and this is (the first thing I found. She has more Democrat fans than Republican.

of course most of her fans lean Democratic.
Is that a surprise to you?

I read People.com so I can be familiar with some generic less controversial/esoteric topics. Taylor Swift is in there a lot and she is dating some football guy and has friends and cats. She wears red lipstick. The football guy seems to spend a lot of time with his mom. He has a brother who is involved with football too. This is about all I can remember about Taylor Swift. People.com rarely puts in political stuff, although when they do it favors the Democrats. They occasionally smear RFKjr and Trump. So maybe that should have been a tip off for me.
