Rumors of Dumping Trump

If the GOP tries to dump Trump they will lose all his fundraising to date. And the RNC infrastructure is essentially Trump'.

Not saying it can't or won't be done. But the hurdles are high.

couldn't they keep the money if they chose Vance as the replacement, like what happened with Biden -> Harris?

Oh, “fookin’ brilliant” to replace Trump with Vance.

I’d need an extra-large popcorn to watch the ensuing legal battles over Trump’s campaign funds. He’d probably also sue for every penny that was raised by any Republican candidate in the time since he filed his 2024 candidacy, claiming they all benefitted from his brand.

This is fun speculation. But I think at the moment Trump is the candidate (sounds like a different thread title) and they just need to own it.

why would they choose someone even more disliked than Trump?

I don't know if they could keep donations given before Vance was on the ticket. Harris was there from day one.

I'm not saying that choosing Vance would be wise, just as a way to keep the money.

As for your second point - yeah, I dunno either.

Well I’m sure if they replaced Trump with Vance at this point, there would be a huge upswell of GOP enthusiasm and donations. Just like with the change on the Democratic ticket.

Another thing to keep in mind --Democrats didn't dump Biden, Biden withdrew. It's not a semantic point -- there was no mechanism by which the DNC could force Biden out. They certainly applied a lot of pressure, but in the end the only way for Biden to leave was for him to voluntarily choose to do so.

I assume the rules are similar on the Republican side. I don't think there is any scenario under which Trump ever puts anyone's interests ahead of his own and steps down.

Agreed. There is a 0% chance he drops out voluntarily.

I’ll give a 0.3% chance the Republicans find a way to oust him. I think if they do, they are conceding the White House to Harris for at least four years.

Ah, how to keep the money... Now that might explain why the Secret Service let someone take a couple shots at Trump... (It's sarcasm... I think).
