Donald and Tariffs

Donald Trump's claim to Wharton credentials is proven false with his complete misunderstanding of Tariffs. He calls it a tax on foreign governments when it is actually a tax on his supporters, and will do terrible things to the economy. I have family members who are trump supporters, and I always want to ask them what policy of his attracts them to him because I have not seen even one policy that makes any sense to me. However you really cannot talk logically with my family members who are Trump supporters, they think everything you say about why Trump's policy are bad is a lie. Which I find as pretty ironic.

As I recall from my US history class.  One of the complaints that business people had about President Jefferson were the tariffs and embargos put upon imports.   And the arguments against the tariffs are the same as we now have.  As pointed out above, the basics of economics and trade have not changed.

I would love someone to leak his Wharton transcripts.

You gotta hear the word salad he spews in response to a question about child care!

My guess is that they have mysteriously disappeared.  College was just another place for him to lie and cheat for self-aggrandizement.

Love him, he's one of my favorites. Wish he had an earlier spot. Would have enjoyed him in Chris Matthews old spot. Actually would love to see Matthews back in that spot. At least I get to see Chris on Morning Joe occasionally. Hated losing Rachel Maddow 4 nights a week, and hate Stephanie Rhule moved to her late night spot from the morning slot.

With all of the reshuffling I'm visiting CNN more often.

Follow-up:

I think Trump just wants to lose and get back to golf. His campaign is a total mess and he likely read about Lichtmann's prediction.

I would agree with you if he wasn’t desperate to stay out of jail.

This whole tariff strategy seems to be born from the panic over Japan overtaking us in manufacturing in the 80s. Lots of people back then were in favor of tariffs on Japanese goods to keep American manufacturing competitive. It was a flawed theory then as it is now, but there’s plenty of white boomers who still think that tariffs on foreign goods will somehow revitalize American industry. It will just make everything more expensive.

Bingo. Primary motivating factor.
