SOMA Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Group

The list is up. Good reading, everyone. Spread the word. Happy summer! I will post in August where/when for Sept. Thanks for the house offer, perhaps a coffee shop for the first one.

where's the list up?
is it possible for those of us who live elsewhere to participate?

Maybe when a title is selected a separate thread can be created with that title (and SPOILER alert) for discussion outside of any physical f2f meet-up?

that idea gets a thumbs up from here!! 2 participants over here.

Please scroll up to where I say the list starting with Ender's Game. The rest of the titles are there in order. Flagged it, too.

Sure. Start an outside discussion about any book. I won't, and all are welcome. See you in September.

Finished Surface Detail. In the middle of Among Others. Both are enjoyable summer readings.

Among Others is funnily appropriate for starting this reading group. Time to reread Ender's Game. Last days of summer. Also reading Wotld War Z.

Ender's Game discussion in September: Wednesday or Thursday evening, 18th or 19th or the following week. Any feelings? Location tba.

September 26th is better for me. 8 p.m. at the Gaslight or St. James or Coda.

Please join us for the Ender's Game discussion. I will post where.

Finally finished it!

Lordy!

What are the others again?

The Windup Girl by Bacigalupi. Among Others by Watson.

Moved the meeting from Thursday to Friday because school meeting. Please join us!

Thank you all for coming this evening. I enjoyed hearing everyone's take on the book. Who knew the last chapter of the '85 book was added to the amazing shorter story from '77 setting things up for Speaker of the Dead? The chapter was not well liked by tonight's participants. Next book is The Windup Girl for end of October. Hope you enjoy it! Please join us to talk SF and F.

First time book clubbing, found two people who had read the super obscure David Wingrove series I loved, which was awesome! Thanks, CBL!

Welcome! Looking at dates in October for Windup Girl discussion. Thinking another Friday at a volunteer's home perhaps? 25th sound possible?

25th sounds good. I'd better get cracking on the book.

I could host if no one else wants to.

I'd better send that chocolate, then.

I've got half a can of McVities Chocolate Digestives in my pantry, thanks for reminding me!

Ridski thanks for the kind offer so at your home on the 25th around 8 pm it is. The Windup Girl by Bacigalupi. Winner of the 2009 Nebula and the 2010 Hugo, "a biopunk s.f. novel". Please join us! Finished or not.

Actually it looks like I might have to go back to England next week so I won't be able to host. Could probably do the week after, or if anyone else wants to take over, I'm sure that would work.

Hope all is OK, Ridski.

No worries. I have to move the date. How does the 8th of November look? Just reading The City & The City by China M. Brilliant.

Actually I won't be going until the week after next now, so I can still host on the 25th. Sorry for messing everyone around!

More info, please. Can the organizer message me with the pertinent info? Thanks.

Death in the family, Joanne. The funeral is now being held on Halloween, believe it or not, so I'll be heading out that week instead of next week.

I think @comicbooklady has the full list of who's participating. Perhaps you could set up a PM with all those interested to discuss? Happy to let you know address, etc over PM.

Sad to hear the news - wishing you all the best. May happier memories help to bring comfort for you all, Ridski. One more star in the Heavens, eh?

Would enjoy joining you as well.. might be interesting at some point to examine the bibliography of one of my favorite writers in the genre, Robert Scheckley, who happened to grow up in Maplewood..
