SOMA: Free Rides To/From Any Polling Location on Election Day

All - please see attached and pass along to any friends and neighbors you feel would utilize this service.

Thanks,

Village President Sheena Collum

Thank you so much for including Maplewood residents in your offer.  Now nobody can use the excuse of not being able to get to the polls due to lack of transportation.  Wouldn't a 100% voter turnout in our two towns be fantastic?

In the 2016 General Election, 64% of South Orange eligible voters went to the polls and 68% of Maplewood eligible voters went to the polls. We've gotta do better. I'm with you - 100% would truly be fantastic.

Bumping this up to the top today...No excuse not to go vote (even  if it is raining ..or foggy!)

I'm curious. How many people availed themselves of this?

 Was there a mandated recount?

More likely a late reporting district.  cheese

The high response to Sheena's initiative shows a real need in our community to provide a means for local residents to get to/from the polls on Election Day.  Now is a good time for civic minded groups/individuals to get together to plan a working system for next year.  In addition to Sheena's Birthday Fund, there were other advertised free ride to the polls programs in place.  The two I know of were provided by Senior Share and the senior bus services in both towns.  The two major political parties in town usually provide rides as well.  Does anyone have figures on the total number of voters who took advantage of these services?

SOMA also provided free rides to the polls in both towns.  They had 20 volunteers who used their own vehicles One woman in my building who is hampered by severe leg pains took advantage of the service.  She was delighted to have a ride.

It speaks well of our volunteers.
