SO Permits & Approvals - Gas Conversion

(cross-posted from Home Fix-it)

This is really specific to SO, but I'd be interested in hearing from anybody who's converted in the last couple of years: The powers that be at Village Hall tell me that chimney certification is required as part of a conversion - which is as it should be. Has anybody had a conversion done (signed off by the township) without?

DH and I are in the process of working through inspection issues on a new place. All involved know that there's chimney work needed; seller has agreed to convert to gas (part of an oil tank removal), but is unwilling to do the chimney work. I suspect that the point is moot - it's gonna have to be done to get approval on the conversion - but I'd like to hear your experiences. Thankee.

you must get 3 things first:

Approval and inspection from "building" on chimney liner

New gas lines must be run, of course with permits and then inspection from plumbing, including a pressure test

Pseg must certify pressure to house is adequate and doesn't need to be stepped up

All the before the town will issue permit for the boiler / furnace

So you'll need these permits

Building for chimney liner

Plumbing for gas lines

Electric for furnace /boiler

Plumbing for furnace boiler

Can't skip a step or be out of order

Wow - this is a blast from the past.  We've been in the house in question for nearly 10 years now.  ...and yes, the seller had to take care of the chimney grin

taking care of it as part of the conversion is one thing, but who pays for it in the end is another. Are they just saying they don't want to pay for it? Or they think they do not have to do it at all?

if there is a provision in your contract that the seller will, convert to gas - then doing everything needed to make that happen is part of it.

does your lawyer understand the details of oil to gas conversion?  Let them deal with it then.

Best of luck!

come on now, the question was from 10 years ago.   Stop already.

how the heck did this happen?  I sure didn't search for this -- it appeared on the feed - and since I'm just going through this, posted!

You're not alone. Since the move to the new software, I've seen several other users reply to ancient threads. Must be a glitch somewhere. Besides, you can never have too many boiler replacement threads
