SC Kennedy Retiring

SC Justice Kennedy announced he's retiring. This will really get out the evangelical and conservative in November.

Don't be surprised if a new 5 hard conservative majority kills women's rights, labor rights, etc.

So, thank you, so-called liberals who voted third party or did not even bother to vote. Enjoy the hell you put yourself in.

You can also kiss the few consumer rights we have goodbye.

Better get that abortion now.....

They have their hearts set on overturning Roe V Wade.

Horrid news. As you say, I hope everyone who didn't vote or who opted to cast a third-party candidate "protest vote" sees what they have allowed to happen.

Overturning Roe v. Wade is a first step. When that happens the issue of abortion will return to the States and their will be pitched battles in many States.

A solution, which I don't really relish, may be to expand the SC as FDR tried. But its better than a dystopian future that the new court may gift us.

McConnell on Kennedy retiring: "It's imperative that the president's nominee be treated fairly."

And when could any solution be implemented? You need a Democratic President and Democratic Majorities in both houses of Congress.

I forgot about that. Unless the Feds pass a Federal law preventing abortions because fetuses are alive and therefore have a Federal constitutional right to life. Which the new court may just decide is valid.

In Germany, abortions, were disallowed because their Basic Law stated all persons has an immutable right to life. It was the understood fetuses were persons. It was finally resolved by their Federal Constitutional court that abortions may be allowed.

Hence, the needed Blue Wave. But its a dangerous game. If the Republicans come back they can further expand the court or reduce it. I'm not sure reducing is constitutional considering justices are life appointees.

Mitch McConnell will burn in hell.

anyone else tired of winning yet?

The nerve of McConnell. The Democrats have to do whatever they can to block any far-right selection through intense, unrelenting questioning. The only hope is to agree to a not-too-far-right nominee. Without the filibuster in their back pocket and being in the minority, there's not a whole lot they can do, unfortunately.

I don't trust the Dems to have the gumption to push back very hard.

So abortion could be made illegal in a lot of Trump states. Hope they enjoy that.

Your anger is misdirected. The DNC found the one candidate who could lose to an orange game show host and they signed a secret deal with her for the nomination.  And while you are pissing at Susan Sarandon and Jill Stein, they are preparing Hillary 2.0 so we can have 8 years of Trump.  So stop the voter shaming and start demanding that the DNC run candidates who care about people more than their donors or well-paid consultants.

If you didn't vote for the Democratic nominee, you voted for this next Supreme Court justice.

No sense blaming other people for sh*tty choices.

Sometimes I find nan's views to be too radical, but I agree with her here. For the Democrats to walk the talk they talk, they have to give up corporate donations from those who want to write legislation for their own benefits. To say we need to accept the money in order to win is too big a compromise.

Holy crap...Even now you continue with this $hit? Shameful !

I think I have to bow out of here for a day or two. I'm finding myself being really nasty not just on here, but in real life. I'm really just made by this turn of events, and I know it's not the end of the world but it is a strong reminder of how upset I am about who is our current president.

So how is the voter shaming working everyone?  Is that the plan going forward?  Just dump on people and let the DNC run one crappy, corrupt candidate after another and do what they can to screw Progressives? While wealth inequality grows past the levels of the Gilded Age.  Cause you all just take the bait every time.  The definition of insanity.  At least some people went out and formed new factions like Justice Democrats and Our Revolution and they are starting to get some attention and excitement.  And votes.  Might want to check that out.  Much healthier response.

I blame the folks who wouldn't vote for HRC and the folks who chose a nominee so toxic that a big chunk of her own  party wouldn't vote for her.  Those two groups are who I blame for the fact that the SCOTUS will be hard conservative for the rest of my life.  Its your fault folks!

Trump will be running again or if not, then Pence. Here's my commitment. If Dems run someone I think is too far left or too far to the center, I'm voting for the Democrat. Its not party loyalty, it is a clear fearful look at Trump and Pence. If we all agree to support even Minnie Mouse, we have a chance to undo some of the damage. If we don't, we will get more of the same.

Yup. I will happily vote for the DEMOCRAT whoever it is.

Same here.  I would vote for a ham sandwich if there's a D after its name.

There are people who think that our Senate's Democrats should be just as obstructionist as the Republicans were during President Obama's administration.

I think it's a road to folly.

President Trump won the last election. Live with it.
