I found them worse than the worst used car dealers. No straight answer on prices, being followed around, price was different with a coupon/etc. Can't speak to the quality of their furniture.
Went to Macys instead for an easy, straightforward experience.
Macy’s has better quality and service. And they stand by their products. I ave had the unfortunate experience of furniture shopping recently to fill a condo and generally found Macy’s to have best quality at best prices. Unless you’re going high end.
I went years ago with an ex-boyfriend and helped him pick out a sofa. He got a good deal and it held up well, although I don't think he used it much. I think you have to spend some time and figure out their gambit and how to get the best deal. I think the furniture is OK quality. You have to check out the individual pieces. Some are better than others.
You should at least visit and take a look and see if you like what they have, then decide if it's worth your while to work with them.
I generally think all the inexpensive furniture available is not so great, and probably comes from the same few places if you trace it back. I bought some tables a few years ago online and was able to find the same pieces at different sites with different names and cheaper prices and free shipping.
Thank you everyone. I've always liked Macy's, but wondered if there was something better for the same quality.
That was my exact thinking as well regarding Macy’s. 15 years later and my conclusion was the same- at a lower to moderate price point, Macy’s has the best options, service, quality and they really stand by the product.
I'm surprised to see so many negative responses here. I've never been, but my mother got several good pieces in the Westchester store and was very happy with the quality and service.
We bought a mattress set at R&F in 2014. That was fine, but the guy who sold it to us called me every 3 months with “exclusive offers.” I probably told him 4x that we moved out of state. Eventually I just blocked the number.
I don’t think it’s terrible. I just think the quality and service much better at Macy’s for a comparable price. And they don’t act like used car salesmen at Macy’s.
So, it looks like I might buy my furniture from Raymour after all. As much as I like Macy's generally, we don't like any of their sofas. They're all modern pieces and we're looking for more traditional couches. Interestingly, prices at the Rte 22 Raymour were more expensive than Macy's.
We bought our leather chaise/sofa combo at Macy’s. There was a section in the back seat part of the cushions where the stitching was coming apart. I checked the warranty we had- can’t remember if it was an add-on type of warranty. Spoke with Macy’s and they sent us a check for $1000 to cover the repair. Got it repaired and no problems since. I believe we had the couch for less than 2 years when the tear was apparent.
I believe it - Macy's is good. Just wish they carried more traditional sofas!
Berkshire Furniture, if you want solid middle range furniture and are willing to order it. It is an old MSO company although moved out of town years ago, and has the solid midrange lines.
I was somewhat surprised by the criticism of Raymour and Flanigan on this thread. In the Middlesex County area, we bought a living room and dining set of almost exactly what we were looking for at good prices last year. The service and delivery were excellent, as was the follow up. We had checked out a Macy's where the store looked like a morgue, the service was poor, the prices high, and the selection limited.
Jasmo: how has your living room set held up? My teenaged kids still throw themselves on the couch so I need something sturdy.
Yeah, the Rte 22 store seemed great. A salesman introduced himself, but didn't follow me around nor push anything. Furniture quality is my lingering concern.
For a small living room setting, we got a couch, a coffee table, and two large comfortable chairs opposite, all found in a display set on sale. The quality was quite good, we had someone to come out and look at a leg one time and they were speedy about it, but I imagine it depends on the individual pieces and manufacturers. In another room we got two very high quality chairs that could slide back for tv watching, and a cabinet for under the tv, all excellent. I don't know how sturdy the pieces would be for teenagers, as we're past that stage, guess it depends on individual items, which all might need to be replaced eventually after your kids move out of the house.

Don't know where we got our furniture 18 years ago, but our couch has held up well to our tween/teen throwing themselves on it (and wrestling around on it). However, we recently discovered that the wall, where the sofa's arm apparently hits it during the kiddo's antics, has not fared so well.
(Now need to patch that 6" hole in the sheetrock, and try to match the paint...).
Bought my couch from Raymour and Flanigan 14 years ago when I moved here. It lasted but over the years cats and general wear took a toll on it. Just upgraded over the weekend to a new sectional, also from Raymour and Flanigan. I'm pleased with their customer service and the quality - nowadays I think 15 years isn't too bad for a couch! Hope I get 15 years out of this one.
Glad to hear, spol! 15 years is how old my current couch is. Got it from Crate & Barrel. Held up well, but don't like Crate's current styles. They've gotten too expensive too.
I went to R&F on Rt 10 in East Hanover and was very unimpressed with the quality of the furniture. I was looking for a loveseat.
I had been to Macy's on 22 a few times, and just found the place depressing.
Went to Macy's in Williowbrook. Much nicer than 22 and got a loveseat in 15 minutes. Yes, it was much more than R&F, but the quality, comfort and styling is much nicer.

Looking for a new livingroom sofa set and was thinking of buying it from Raymour & Flanigan, but have no experience with them. Do you recommend them or no? Are they similar to Macy's just more expensive? Don't want to cheap out, but don't want to spend too much either. Kids and dogs in the house.
