Radio Today

For old timers and interested new timers, WFUV is playing only songs from 1971 today.  A lot of cool stuff but occasionally funny uncool trash top 40 stuff too.  All good.

For the #1 media market in the country, terrestrial radio is awful. WBGO/WFUV/NPR are the only stations I listen to. The days of WPLJ and WNEW are long gone LOL

With the advent of streaming, I'm not even sure what the value of purchasing a broadcast station is.  Location doesn't matter anymore.

Back when I was in my 20s (so late '80s and early '90s) and arranged my albums in order by year, 1971 got my vote for being the best. A close second was 1973.

Weird that you mention that.  Today, I was thinking about the book Never a Dull Moment: 1971 The Year That Rock Exploded and it the book was later mentioned on FUV. The author's argument was that it was rock's greatest year.  It is a very impressive list of albums.

Not too shabby for R&B and soul, either.

He includes R&B and soul.   Not a lot but it's not narrowly a "rock" list.

The rabbit hole to end all rabbit holes. So little time and so many thousands of radio stations.  I love Latin music and I'm amazed how many stations in the USA program Latin music. I wish I could find a mariachi station. Looking in south Texas and Mexico. ,What makes it difficult is there are no border lines.

ETA: I found this: Mariachi Radio Stations - Listen Online (streema.com)
