Paul Ryan Checks Out

The GOP goes through Speakers of the House the way Trump goes through wives.

Ryan has **** the bed, had his spine removed for all to see and has publicly prostituted himself in every way imaginable.  I can't imagine how he can even look his children in the eye at this point.  So, I guess now is as good a time as any to throw in the towel.

This news makes me glow. I can't stand him!

Good. The little monster is gone!

don’t you think this more means he’s planning to run for President?

He's spineless and unencumbered by anything resembling principles, but I don't think he is delusional.

I'm sure he thinks he can, but not in 2020.  He's young enough to let whatever mess happens then take place, with his opportunity coming in 2024.  He will continue to play Smart Policy Guy on cable news, on Trump's side (mostly) but keeping a little bit of distance.  Sort of like Chris Christie, but in much better shape.

You have to be willing to stand for something to run for president. Even vile Trump has conviction in his delusions. Ryan, nothing.

Agreed. Biden DESTROYED him during the debates.

Senate

Is this the republican way of saying, that one can't stomach the deranged demagogue in the Golden House, without going on record as being opposed to the President?

I think he's just going to cash in, maybe return to politics down the road if we survive the monster he helped create.

Run for POTUS?!?! ryan is afraid or in awe of the current POTUS. ryan would lose to 45 in his own home state.

this is my take as well.  Ryan has always been about money.   He was probably already promised a big job due to his role in getting the huge corporate tax cuts.

Plus he does not seem to have the stomach/spine to be President.  I had the feeling he was happy that he lost when he was the VP candidate.

I didn’t say I’d vote for him. But I have no doubt he thinks himself President material. Just wait...

At least he helped reduce the deficit in a very healthy economy, right?

Ryan dropping out leaves the GOP nomination open for this guy, the only other candidate in the primary right now.  "A white nationalist and anti-Semite, Paul Nehlen, who lost to Mr. Ryan by 68 points in the 2016 Republican primary, is running again, this time flaunting his bigotry to gain a national following."

I think Ryan didn't have the stomach to face a contested reelection campaign against the Iron Stache

A few weeks ago Chuck Todd of MTP asked his guests to speculate as to who of the current House and Senate Leaders, McConnell, Schumer, Pelosi and Ryan would still be in office in January 2019. The others didn't really have answers, but Todd said he was predicting that the only one still holding his current position in Jan. 2019 would be Schumer.

I can only wonder, happily, whether Ryan has polling data that shows the Republicans definitely losing the House in November.

Does Nancy (impeachment is off the table) Pelosi have a significant challenger?

I don't see Ryan running against Baldwin for her Senate seat this year.  She is certainly against the ropes in Wisconsin, but there are already two announced GOP candidates that each have substantial support from different GOP constituencies and funders.  Ryan has never struck me as the kind of guy to muscle in over people--when he took over from Boehner it was through the back door as opposed to storming the gates (which is what will happen to Pelosi if the Dems take over the House, btw--lots of folks storming the gates to bounce her out).

Nor will he challenge Scott Walker for Governor.

He has made no secret of wanting to run for President.  If Trump has to stand down due to legal issues or "health problems", look for Ryan to be there in the 2020 hunt.  Otherwise, he will be a lucrative lobbyist for a few years and then will see if his tax reform really did help our economy or drives us into ruin (which is my guess) before he runs in 2024.

You will see him in '24.

If he were to run in'20,  ----  "I thought you wanted to spend time with your kids until they left the nest."

Is there anybody who respects Ryan at this point?   Unless he is a phoenix, he's toast in perpetuity.

After Trump, anything is possible. He put the bar for the Presidency really low.

I guess you don't watch the talking heads. All I saw all day, from every corner, was one long tongue bath of Ryan. They love the guy. They apparently believe his b.s.He would have the beltway commentariat's full support in a comeback.

It's frightening.

What talking heads? Tea Party don't like him. Trump fascists don't like him. Democrats don't like him. Very little left.

If a person is the preferred candidate of the punditocracy it makes them think they're more popular than they are. Filled with hubris they launch a disastrous presidential campaign. (See Lieberman, Giuliani, Christie).

Saw this on Facebook:  In two years, at age 50, Ryan will start receiving $79,000 a year for life in defined benefit retirement payments.  Funded by the same taxpayers whose Social Security he has been trying to cut or privatize his entire career.

Maybe as his kids grow up, it is becoming too difficult to explain that he is a spineless, unprincipled whore.

They have allowed a rambunctious, hostile, uncontrolled man-child hijack their party from them. It was baby steps via the Tea Party and they did nothing. The Tea Party gave way to Trump and again, they do nothing. It's easier and as mentioned above, and more financially savvy for them to bow out than to stand up against someone they know is unqualified and quite possibly dangerous. Trump will beget another Trump styled person and again, nothing will be done. They must love the way things are panning out for them which is completely bizarre as I don't see an upside by hanging on to this president.
