No New York Times?

It looks like no one on my block got their Times this morning.  When I went to check the website my account had a notice on it saying they could not deliver my paper due to “printer issues”.

Is this a widespread issue?  Is it due to the power outages last night?  Will periodic printed newspaper fails be yet another unanticipated consequence of global warming?

I'm glad you posted this, because I went looking for my NYTimes (the Star Ledger arrived, and normally they're together) this morning, and wondered why I couldn't find it.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I literally beat the bushes in my driveway as I assumed the Times was hidden while the Ledger was visible in its bright yellow PLASTIC sleeve. Guess we will read NYT online.

Thankfully, before I commenced beating the bushes, I called my deliverer and the Times and both reported a newspaper truck breakdown as the cause for no delivery today.

I am being to think of getting an online 7 day subscription only. But no crossword puzzles? No Sunday editions to savor? Anyone cut the cord?

We went to the electronic edition - you can print out the crossword puzzles and the website allows you to read the paper by section (international, sports, etc.)

I admit that I often buy a physical Sunday paper and read it throughout the week.  My husband just smiles . . .

 The  answer!

Thanks

If I recall correctly, the delayed/missed paper edition shows up with the morning paper the next day.

I think about this every time delivery is late, or the paper doesn't show. But, you can't teach an old dog (me) new tricks (digital only).

I need the print edition, so I can see the advertisement for Jeopardy and the "answer of the day" Final Jeopardy.  That gives me time to use "the Google" and ensure I know what the response should be, so I can look smart when we watch the show that evening.   smile

I subscribed to the Crossword online and have become completely hooked.

We get paper Friday through Sunday. Other days we go online.

Our Weds paper came this morning with today’s edition. It was kind of nice to have two papers, my wife and I didn’t have to share.

Went on the Times chat line re cost of all digital access — dropping my 7 day paper delivery, but I gave up - long wait times. Anyone know the all digital cost?

My wife and I got a deal where we get weekend delivery only, and it costs less than digital only, yet it entitles us to digital access. I suggest you call to find out what's best. The reason they can reduce the price when they deliver the physical paper is that they can claim a certain level of circulation when they deliver.

the 7 day delivery costs $77 per month.

About a year ago, a next door neighbor took on the tasks of fetching our newspapers and placing them at our door everyday! He also returns trash and recycling cans to the garage door!

If he is away, the neighbor across the street takes over these tasks! I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful neighbors.

I am thinking switching to digetal will lighten their burdens! confused

Wow!  We receive a discount through my wife’s work and we pay a much lower rate. Is there any sort of Senior discount?  I love leafing through the morning paper but, if I was paying $77 a month on a pension I would definitely be thinking about going digital.

We have All Access Digital (which includes the crossword and cooking content) and it's $35 a month. You can get a basic subscription for less. Also - if you have all access you get bonus subscriptions that you can share with someone else.

I think we pay $31/month for digital plus weekend delivery.

How do you print out the crossword puzzles?  I thought it was a separate (extra $$) subscription, but perhaps I was misinformed.

I usually read the NYT on my phone, but I could deal with using the computer to get the puzzle.

Finally called the Times. Even they seemed shocked when I told the rep that I have been paying $77 a month for a long time! So, I am going on a year long promotion rate of $14 question a month. It will give me all access, plus 2 free subscriptions to assign to others. I will be also able to do crossword puzzles. I commented that I hated going without the Sunday paper — it worked. Now I have to hope the home delivery service will remember my once a week paper.

Thanks for motivating me to take the step — hopefully my paper rattling addiction will fade in time.

With the regular electronic edition you get mini-puzzles you can do online.  For an extra $20 a year you get all the crosswords.
