New laptop recommendations

So the Dell laptop screen has a black shape and lots of vertical and horizontal lines in it.

Think I need a new laptop. Want to replace with something similar with hard drive storage, Microsoft word/office, cd/DVD player, you know the usual stuff

Willing to spend up to $600.

What would you buy?

Lenovo - there are a variety of different options.  Their products and service are unparalleled.  I've only ever used Thinkpads (for 21 years now) http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/ but I just ordered a Flex series laptop to use purely as a media device - will repost after I receive it and check it out.

most new laptops don't have a CD/DVD..i got mine on sale at Best Buy a few months ago for 300...regular 400.

it was fine for a month until I installed AVG free...and then seemed to slow....haven't had a chance to try different protection software...

its HP15

it didn't come with office word

..but i bought a used copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Standard off ebay... for $40 including shipping

as an alternative you can use Open Office.  I hear it does just about everything Word does and is fully compatible..and free.
