I've moved quite a few times although never across country. I've found that the big, national brand movers are to be avoided. They don't stand by their work and don't really give a damn. They don't care if they break or lose your stuff because it's either insured or it's not. To them it's just a transaction. The smaller, family-owned movers are different. They feel part of the community. They want referrals and repeat work. Their employees are long-terms folks who are encouraged to care. They want you to be happy.
Problem is that the smaller companies might not do cross-country moving. I don't know.
I've used Catlow Movers (201) 653-1808 a few times and been very, very happy with price, service, timeliness, movers, etc. Lovely people. Mark Catlow is the guy to talk to.
