Male Manicurists

In the past couple of years I notice more and more nail salons employing men as manicurists and pedicurists.  I always ask for a woman. Wondering if I'm the only one who's uncomfortable with a male working on my hands and feet.

Agree 100%. I prefer female manicurists because I find the men to be a bit clumsy / clunky. As if they're working on a car engine and not a person.

That too. But for me it's more that I am uncomfortable with a male who is not a doctor interacting with my hands and feet. Don't even get me started on the massage they do why you're drying.

The gender of the manicurist doesn't bother me; however I am uncomfortable with male clientele at the salon.  It feels as if a last bastion has been violated.  IMHO.

I have had manicures by mostly females, but I have to say it happens to have been a male who did the most amazing work for me in the past.  Gender here doesn't matter to me.

Me too. I got a pedicure once from a male and he worked so hard on my feet (they really needed it) and I didn’t even have to ask him. Whenever I get a female manicurist I have to insist on extra attention to my heels, my bunions, it gets embarrassing to ask lol. Yet they charge the same.

the best local pedicurist I had was Jon at Kim’s Nails in Maplewood. I think he’s moved on but he was excellent and always booked a few weeks ahead.

And why would you care who was in a salon? Is it less relaxing if a man gets a manicure next to you? Weird comment. I barely notice who’s next to me. It wouldn’t even register if it was a man. Who cares?

This reminds me of a thread I saw on Next-door where the poster was looking for "cleaning ladies".  Because, apparently, house cleaning is a profession that is only open to one gender.  It all seems a bit sexist to me but I don't get pedicures and, as it happens, the crews that clean my house have always been made up exclusively of women.
