i'd be more worried about the HOA (board of directors), they are usually abusive and break their own rules......even if they are decent now, that can change...I learned the hard way (not in maplewood).
The area around Maplecrest Park is very safe. Added perks are public transportation right on Springfield Avenue (25 and 70 bus lines), library and police station are right there, pharmacy close by.

Thank you so much.

I can see the building from my house. Have lived in the neighborhood for 30 years. It is lovely and safe and I think you will like it here.

Do you have first-hand experience with this building’s HOA?

as i said "NOT in maplewood"...i have not only my own personal experience but countless stories around the country.....there is a whole youtube series of extreme abuses by HOAs. I know someone that tried to hire lawyer...the lawyer said the situation was so bad he could only advise the owner to move.

you're such a ray of sunshine.
Do you know anything at all about the building in question here? If not, what is the point of bad mouthing all HOA's - which is what you're doing.
Really - what's the point of your posts here? You're not being helpful. You haven't offered an actual word of useful advice.
Apologize to the OP and go away.

That sucks about your HOA experience. Unlike drummerboy, I don't have the urge to shoo you away. You had adverse effects from an HOA and I cannot judge what you say. Heck, I didn't even know what an HOA was until I was on MOL (2008). I had to look it up when I saw that acronym and frankly, I was glad we never encountered one. I did know about condo associations though - so maybe they're the same, only an HOA also deals with land/property rather than just an owned apartment in a building. Anyway, it's possible Sweetl4u7 has no experience with an HOA/COA(?) and you gave fair warning.
I'd like to think there wouldn't be a problem in the Wonderful World of Maplewood but people are people, Sweetl4u7. Indeed, you might encounter really nice neighbors or people that would rather tell you what to do and then go away. It looks like a great location to live in though. I don't live in Maplewood but I am there a lot and have several friends that live on the streets on either side of Tuscan. If you like great walking neighborhoods and trees, you're in for a treat.
Well, my point was that rather than give actual advice, like maybe about what to look for in an HOA to see if they're a problem, all he did was give silly scary stories (like the countless examples he has personal knowledge of).
That's less than useful.

Maybe so, but there weren't any disparaging comments on their input and orders to apologize and go away. I can't say that fair warning is unhelpful. Pessimistic, sure, but experience is experience.
Anyway, mea culpa, I know this thread drift is less than useful.
I nearly bought a unit in that building. The apartments are beautiful but I had concerns about the lack of soundproofing between floors. I didn't have any qualms about neighborhood safety.
