LGBT Pride Marches on June 11

LGBT Equality Marches on Sunday, June 11

On Sunday, June 11, the national Equality March for Unity and Pride will take place in Washington, DC, the latest of this year's many protest marches in Washington. The Trump administration has been rolling back hard won progress for the LGBT community (yep, despite campaign promises to the contrary), and this march will protest those actions.

In conjunction with the Washington march, there will be solidarity marches and rallies around the country. One such event, sponsored by SOMA Action, will take place in Maplewood. All are welcome to join in a short, peaceful protest march starting at 10 AM in Maplewood Village at Ricalton Square (across from the Maplewood Theater). The march will proceed to Town Hall by way of Baker St. There will be a short rally at Town Hall, with speeches by Mayor Vic DeLuca, Mayor Sheena Collum, and others, plus official pride month declarations and the raising of a rainbow pride flag. Details are available on facebook here.

Shortly thereafter, the "West Orange Pride March and Picnic 2017" will take place in West Orange. Details are available on facebook here.

For those who wish to participate in the Washington event, North Jersey Pride is offering two options in support: a round trip bus ride to Washington on the 11th, or a block of rooms at a nearby Washington hotel on the night of the 10th. Those who travel to Washington are invited to march in the North Jersey Pride contingent. Details on these options are available on the North Jersey Pride facebook page and website.

Please join one or more of these events in support of your LGBT family, friends and neighbors, and to remind the Trump administration that rolling back rights is contrary to our nation's values.

The Rainbow Flag has been draped on Maplewood Town Hall in preparation for Sunday's March, Rally, Pride Month Proclamation, and Rainbow Flag Raising.  If you can't be in DC for the Equality March for Unity and Pride, Maplewood is the next best place!
