Is Lady Bird OK for Teens?

Is this movie OK to see as a family with older teenagers? Thanks.

If older is 14 or so, yes, if they're girls. Boys will be bored. Except at the parts that make it inappropriate for younger teens. A really good and really thought- and discussion-provoking movie. Hope you like it!

Seriously? Would you ever say that about girls watching a movie about boys?

I think so. There's language and teens drinking and smoking pot. A non-graphic sex scene, also teens.

Just got back from seeing it. Definitely fine for 17 and up. A couple of years younger and I think it’d still be fine and entertaining, though some of the themes might be a little more elusive.

(Speaking of which, a laugh-out-loud line, which this mention shouldn’t spoil: “They didn’t understand it.”)

Unless you have been a zealous guardian of your teen's cable TV and internet viewing habits,  I can't imagine that they haven't seen racier language and images many times before.

you monitor what a 17+ yr old sees at the movies?

Nope. The question was:

There's plenty of stuff I'm sure they watch that I wouldn't want to be watching with them as a family activity.

Lady Bird is completely appropriate for family viewing with older teenagers. I would even think it appropriate for mature 14 year olds. After all the movie is about a High School kid.

If you are worried about sex then The Shape of Water and Call Me By Your Name are more problematic.

Thanks. We saw Lady Bird. Completely fine. I know Call Me By Your Name well. A friend of my husband wrote the book.
