Internet service providers?

Help! Are there any good alternatives to Verizon fios for internet service in the Maplewood area? I have a bundle of internet, TV and phone with Verizon that is way too expensive. And now my phone line has been out of order for almost a week; I'm very frustrated with how they've handled it.  I don't want a 2 year contract.  I would cancel all services with them immediately but cannot afford to be without internet.  Any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

You are luckier than most people in the US. Most of us have only one high speed internet provider.

Call Comcast. Negotiate a rate. Then call Verizon and ask them to match comcast's rate. Maybe they will. Go with the one you like.

It seems that most people prefer Verizon FIOS except when it comes to dealing with customer service.  If your main concern is the cost, then the suggestion to get a competing quote and then go back and negotiate is a good one.  My recollection from when we had Comcast was that they had many more outages and performance issues than FIOS.  I understand that when you call to cancel, they (Verizon) are likely to offer you a better deal.

I had a lot of problems with comcast phone service as did my neighbor

I have the Comcast bundled package,  internet,  phone and TV,  Have to admit I have never had any problem with

customer service on anything because I have never had a problem with any of my services.  Service is now in place

for 6 years plus and certainly adequate for my needs.  Come to think of it I did one time ask them to increase my

internet speed and I think they did that remotely

Just an observation: I have Internet service at two locations: one with FIOS, one with Optimum. I ran the speedtest at both locations using the same laptop. Download speed was about 2 1/2 times faster on FIOS. Upload speed difference was even greater -- much, much faster on FIOS. That being said, for my normal, everyday use, the difference in speed isn't particularly noticeable.
