I adopted my Isabella from The NJ Animal Coalition when it was still around -- roughly 12 years ago. She is still going strong and is my very best friend.
I have time available and thought it would be great to help walking dogs, tending to their needs, helping keep them and their surroundings comfortable and maybe even help a customer or two.
I know many of you are involved with animals. My vet doesn't board d0gs, so I don't think they have the situation I'm looking for. From East Orange, Morris County is a little far for me -- I'm thinking Essex County. Google has a long list -- but it still includes the Coalition, so maybe not so up-to-date.
Though I like watching "Pitbulls and Parolees", I'm not looking to go after strays -- a little too risky. But helping pups while they're finding their "furever" homes -- I'd love that.
Suggestions? Chime in! Thanks.
try contacting Bloomfield shelter. They’ve been swamped with animals. To the point they’re not accepting any pets until they get the ones they have in the shelter adopted. It’s rough out there. They might just need an extra pair of hands.

Thanks, folks. It would be really nice to be able to help right here in East Orange. Come on over or drop me a line if you want to join me. Never afraid to dig in and get a little dirty -- especially if the home shower is just a few blocks away. I'll try to keep y'all posted.

My friend is involved with East Orange Animal Alliance. Many years ago I volunteered at the Montclair shelter when it was PAWS and I'm not sure if they still have dog walkers and when the JAC opened I volunteered there.
I know many colony caretakers, a couple in East Orange and they often need help feeding the colonies. Lots of opportunities fostering cats particularly now during kitten season. My rescue is taking a pause due to taking in an FIP+ kitten who after months of treatment is in remission so until the meds are FDA approved all of us who have used the drugs are cautious about exposing the kitty to any new disease.
If you get the urge to foster you can message me. The need is great and if you are interested in doing any Trap, Neuter, Return rescue friends are always looking for help. Simple things like picking up a trap and transporting to PFA in Hillside or picking up there and returning.
I've been at this for 20 years, so I'm happy to make suggestions.

Thanks for the info, Morganna. I live in an apartment building, and my own dog is already way over their weight limit, but they haven't bothered me. Though fostering may be in my future, I'm also looking for a little socialization -- both for ME, and possibly for my own dog if I work my way up to fostering. I'm hoping for someplace I can GO TO where I can work with and get to know other volunteers and the dogs. I have never done this before, but all my life my dogs have been shelter rescues. I sort of envisioned a place I could walk dogs in the area of the shelter, and also help with cleaning up and helping out with placements, etc. I may work my way up to trapping or fostering (especially if I lose my doggie, who's 12 already).
Since it's only 3:00, and & Montclair is open til 5, I may take a ride over. E.O. Animal Alliance is closed until tomorrow.
Thanks again. Please keep passing along any news or advice you hear.
