HP Pavilion Tower- won't power up

OK- so the little green light on the BACK of the tower lights up when plugged in, but the power button in front won't work when pressed.

I guess the unit's getting electricity, but....any hope?

you could probably get a new power unit at best buy. they're fairly easy to replace.

How old is it? This may be a good time to get a new computer and connect the old hard drive to the new computer and transfer your files. HP Pavilions are not made to last.

Is the fan working? I had to replace mine on the HP.

I think fan was working, but can't tell now cause it won't power up.

Files are backed up thank goodness, but is power unit something I can do at home (Tom and Jamie you can tell what level of competence I have and should I attempt)

I think you can. I took my power unit out first and brought it with me to BB - I think they have 2 or 3 styles to choose from - so it's pretty obvious when you see them side by side.

Before you removed it - I would take a picture once you have the cover off - so you have a record of where everything was connected.

Not sure how you test it, but my Compaq Towers on off switch broke. Was able to easily replace the switch.

Microcenter will do diagnostics and tell you what it will cost, for a fee. Microcenter is in Paterson.

I hear that heart surgeons do something like that.

Only Ben Carson does.
