I was hoping the snow would last on the ground until Christmas but it seems there won't be much.
Remember a few years ago when we were betting on how long the last piles of snow would last?
Are we really going to get about 2 inches of rain for Christmas? I won’t be surprised if we end up with 50mph winds also. It’s 2020 after all. I already have my 2021 calendar hanging on the wall.

Rain possible today becoming steady and then heavy after sundown and continuing through the night and into Friday morning.
Wind advisory tonight with likely steady winds in the 20s and gusts in the 40 mph range, with some gusts as high as 50 mph possible.
Showers Friday, and becoming cold Friday night with maybe a snow shower but no significant accumulation.

Is it because the flow of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is more a summer pattern? I feel it’s definitely related to climate change. Not that I can honestly say I miss the Nor’easters.

Close — though I’m not sure it categorize the moisture source as from the GOM as much as the Caribbean/gulf stream. This resembles to me a phenomenon largely seen on the west coast — an atmospheric river. Moisture content in the atmosphere is something like 6-8 standard deviations above normal, or about 700% more than we’d expect this time of year. I think there’s an argument to be made that *this* is an impact of climate change.
What makes this additionally strange though is that while ahead of the front it’s warm and behind it cold (normal), there appears to be places where there will be a quick blast of post-frontal snow (unlikely here). The whole configuration of the precip seems very odd to me.

Although the exact timing is still a bit uncertain, expect rain in the afternoon becoming heavy overnight, with wind possibly in the 20s with gusts in the 30 mph range. Although precipitation might turn over to snow early Friday am, do not expect any significant accumulation. Local and small stream flooding is possible.
