Hearing Aids from Costco

Has anyone had any experience with quality and service of hearing aids from Costco? My husband is getting his first pair, and my research and our shopping around has shown that there is a tremendous markup on hearing aids. Costco comparable brands is half the price, and the service person, who is not working on commission, says they do service and adjustments.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

My husband has had them for at least a year and a half and highly recommends Costco for the hearing aids. Service is wonderful and they let you try them out in the store before purchase to be sure you like them. Very patient while explaining the process. Totally computerized for custom needs and our insurance paid a good portion, which was a bonus. His brother paid twice the price for his at a non-Costco hearing center. My husband would be happy to speak to you of his experience if you pm me, I will give his info.

That was where my mother bought hers. She seemed pleased.

Got mine at Costco. Highly recommend them for quality, price and service. Phonak brand excellence and paid about a third of what I paid elsewhere.

What did they cost? My hearing loss is the range that can't be helped by hearing aids. In a few years, the lower range is expected to go and then hearing aids will help.

got my first pair, Miracle Ear at Sears about 9 years ago for $6K +/-. It was a love-hate situation for me because I was struggling with my ego re the idea that I truly needed them!

Upgraded to new pair last month from Costco for $1800 and they are superior in every way.

I got mine thru Summit Medical Group. Insurance covered most. It is actually the more advanced version of the one Costco sells but probably not worth the extra cost had insurance not covered it. Service was great at SMG and they let me test them for a couple of weeks, adjust them, etc plus they gave me extra batteries for free as well as the other items that have to be changed regularly (wax guards, domes). I did go back about six months after I purchased and they gave me another set of batteries (retail cost $50.00) and they did another adjustment (no charge).

However, my new insurance does not cover so I will be heading to Costco for my next pair.

mikescott - Did you get Phonak at SMG? I also bought mine through SMG and intend to get my next pair at Costco. I bought mine three years ago and as I recall, Costco didn't carry Phonak then. I see that Costco is now using Phonak.

Costco does sell hearing aids for far less than any audiologist/dispensers office can sell them for. Before going to Costco you should check if you have a hearing aid benefit through your heath insurance company. More and more insurances now provide some coverage for hearing aids either on their own or through a third party provider such as HearPo or Truhearing where you can often pay even less than Costco will charge. Keep in mind that a hearing aid purchased at Costco is made exclusively for them and is usually a "dumbed down" version of what you would get in an audiologist or dispenser's office. Not sure if Costco includes followup visits but those are typically included when a hearing aid is purchased at an audiologist's office.

Costco does provide follow up visits I left with extra batteries and ear pieces as well.

When I got mine in Oct, the store offered two brands in a variety of types. There is an insurance policy to cover replacing a damaged or lost hearing aide.

On major improvemt for me is the volume control switch on the device. I had had a separate remote control, but never carried it around with me. So much more helpful now.

The costco might sell a "dumbed down" version, but many of the extra features (more channels being the primary one) do not make much of a difference and not worth the extra cost. I got mine at SMG because of the insurance factor and it made the cost less. I found the service at both places to be very good and both did offer follow-up visits. My other preference for SMG is that it there is nothing else to buy... Just not enough will power for me to go to costco and after all how many 70 inch tv's do I really need?
