Haircut for tween girl - where to go?

We used to use Salon 4 Kids in Summit which was great....they cut hair well and it didn't break the bank ($25). Since they closed/merged with Salon 44, they now want $50 for a hair cut. Last haircut, we went to Supercuts in South Orange but I really wasn't happy with it. Not only did the cost rack up (separate charge for wash/cut/blow) but they didn't do the greatest job. And worst....I saw all these flakes as her hair was being cut so the stylist said my kid had dandruff. Needless to say, we have never seen a speck since then so no clue if it was the shampoo, dirty comb or what!!

So my question to all of you is...have we reached the point where we are going to have to start paying for her haircuts as if she was an adult or are there truly reasonable places still out there?

BTW, her hair is a bit below the shoulder, straight and on the thicker side. I did call my salon and they wanted $60.

Thanks everyone!

There used to be a nice place by the Shoprite in Livingston that seemed to cater to that age group, but I am thinking it might have closed..son't know about the prices

I always thought my salon - Trendz in Florham Park - was pretty expensive ($45 for me for a cut and blow dry), but I like my stylist and she's been cutting my hair for over 25 years, so I keep going there. When my kids were tweens/teens, their haircuts were always somewhat less (maybe $25-35) but that's been a few years. And I'm not sure if new customers get the same rates as long time customers there. But you might want to call and ask. 973-377-5552

Did you check with Fringe Salon on Springfield? It seems they generally are good and reasonably priced. I have used them largely for blow outs and other services, since I go to what is probably the more expensive salons and pay a fortune for haircuts..

We go to Garuboswhich my daughter loves but it's not cheap. I think it was $40. Fortunately she only cuts her hair once or twice a year.

There are junior stylists at Garubo who are very affordable. I had a great $28 haircut there.

I take my girls to Alexis at stage one on ridgewood in maplewood - across from cedar ridge cafe. She does a fabulous job. We know many other kids/tweens who are happy there as well.

How often does she get it cut? If it's fairly long and the gaps between cuts are big, maybe it's not terrible to pay the adult price on rare occasions, although the Garubo junior stylists sound like a very good option.
