Groundhog Day - any other movies that you watch over and over?

I watch Groundhog Day whenever it comes on, which lately seems to be monthly.

Such a great movie.

What movies do you watch over and over again?

"The Philadelphia Story."

Go figure.

About a Boy. Especially the part where Hugh Grant walks on the stage. Sappy, but I will always love Hugh Grant for this movie.

Why look, here it is now:

yeah, I remember that as good movie. I should watch it again.

Did you ever read the book?

Another vote for The Philadelphia Story (Hepburn and I are both Bryn Mawr alumnae)

The Shawshank Redemption, Mr. Roberts, The Princess Bride . . .

When does the musical version of Groundhog Day open?

"The Bicycle Thief", "Vertigo", "Amarcord"

Have never really been into this. Seen it once, I'm done. When our daughter was young made it through Oz a couple of times and her favorite: Nightmare Before Christmas at least 5 times!

-Ron Carter

Oh yeah, Shawshank is another one that I can't resist watching.

Two votes for Philadelphia Story, huh? Will have to revisit that one.

And Mr. Roberts and Princess Bride are no slouches either.

After The Promise. It's a very old movie that played over every Christmas when I was growing up. It's a tear jerker but was a staple during the holidays.

My spouse picks the TV in our house for the most part and I watch along sometimes. Some of the frequent repeaters that we both like: Dave, Notting Hill, Sweet Home Alabama, Overboard, A Cinderella Story, The American President, Pretty Woman, Raise Your Voice, Ever After

I know there are quite a few others but I'm not coming up with them.

The American President. Saw it recently for the first time. Great movie.

The Matrix, Nacho Libre, Alien, The Fifth Element

Not sure why, but Hitch, when it comes on, quite often.

(OK, I'm pretty sure it's because of Eva Mendez... cheese )

I luuuuuuv The Fifth Element. I always catch at least a part of it if it's on. It was just on this week.

That's a favorite of my son's, actually. But I think it's for Will Smith. oh oh

ETA: that smiley face is way too boisterous for me.

I've seen The Big Lebowski and It's a Mad, Mad World more times than I can count

Mad Mad World is great! I still remember watching it in the theater with my mom when it came out. My first "picture show". I was totally enthralled. It was just on recently.

I'm sad that I don't really get the Coen brothers. Apart from Fargo, their stuff doesn't stand out for me. I'm sure it's my fault. cheese

Fargo is another one I'll watch again and again. Just watched it this week actually.

Putney Swope, Buckaroo Bonzai, Shawshank, Blazing Saddles, Network, Baghdad Cafe, Bulworth, any pre Hollywood John Woo, all Kurosawa

...and I've been known to watch trailers of movies that Eva Mendes might be in.

(fwiw: Monday 3/27 12:05am Encore "Children of the Corn V" starring Ms. Mendes)

Ironically?

I've been wondering about this a lot recently. There is a new Luc Besson Sci Fi movie coming out soon and, in the trailer, they say "by the man who brought you the Fifth Element".  Until I saw that trailer, I had assumed that most people today who liked the Fifth Element liked it in the "its so bad its good" sense but now I am wondering whether there were really people who came out of the theater and said "THAT WAS AWESOME".

Seems unlikely.

The film I've watched countless times -- more than any other -- is 1965's "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold." I own the DVD and also the John LeCarre book which I've read several times. The film can currently be seen on Comcast's On Demand in the Movieplex free movie channel. You can see it until October 31, 2017.  This is a film that must be seen more than once.  It's worth the investment to appreciate the absolute treachery and betrayal.  Although the links below reveal some spoilers, in my opinion they help to appreciate the film.

A Hard Day's Night, Bridge on the River Kwai, Casablanca, Godfathers I and II, Goodfellas - all classics. Every Halloween season it's Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Haunting, Horror Hotel, The Shining.

Then there are non-classics that I watch whenever they are on and I can't explain why - The Waterboy, Bring It On.

Fantastic. (The director is an old college friend.)

There's a bunch listed already that I will drop everything and watch if they're on including The Fifth Element which I do genuinely enjoy, but two recent films that I'm compelled to watch every single time I see they're playing are Paddington and The Lego Movie. I adore those two.

happy to see you like the fifth element too. It's got great visuals, creates a very interesting future world, and is pretty funny.

Don't know why anyone would think it's a bad movie. cheese

Another movie jones I have is for the Godfather 1 and 2. I don't even know how many times I've watched those.

You can tell him/her I consider it up there in the rarefied air of Casablanca, Bridge on the River Kwai and the Godfather.

Better than fantastic. Epic.

(Ridski was kind enough in the past to praise my pal's "Down With Love." I'll add you to the Peyton Reed Cineastes Club/Maplewood Chapter's mailing list.)

Have to add My Cousin Vinny! The scene with Marisa Tomei on the witness stand is great! She won Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for that movie.

Classic.
