I'm not joking. Weather Channel App: 2/1 - Potential winter storm .... chance of snow, 50%.

I prefer the National Weather Service but sure perhaps this commercial app knows something that noaa doesn't. In any event it's always iffy predicting that many days out but I'll stick with weather.gov which is there all the commercial apps get their info from anyway for the the most part

The forecast I looked at said chance of snow 50% and potential snowfall of 1 inch.

I’m not joking either… we’re going to get a repeat of 1996…

My apologies to jerseyjack and anyone else:

weather.gov is now showing on Sunday a 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy with a high near 26.

I'll blame it on the administration's layoffs. JK JK

Again I do have a bias for the National Weather Service. Maybe they're more cautious; who knows. But apologies again for my too snarky initial responses.

I think most of us are quite comfortable with the snarky responses… it’s just that you really don’t know jack…even scully at times can’t be sure when he’s kidding or not 😁

I actually know jack quite well and scully even better.  And jack does know I can give him snark when he deserves it. This time he didn't; thus my apologies.

By the way Max - our local weather guru - has opined on this possible snow on the pinned thread in case folks are interested.

Highly developed?   oh oh   But you do know how to bring certain threads off topic, I'll give you that.  cheese

I'll lay claim to that honour, too.

When I saw the topic headline I thought, "Beauty!  Now if I can get all the MOL-ers to get all their spare plastic containers, fill them with snow and post them to me, I'd be very appreciative!"  My city has just enjoyed ('Enjoyed? Who are you kidding?) what is close to an all-time record with a top temperature of 42.7 C  - that's just under 109 F.  Temperatures across my state reached even higher - the top temperature being recorded was 48.9 C. That's 120.2 F.   https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01-27/heatwave-record-temperatures-victoria/106273034

So, if you have any spare snow, I'll take it!

Now, back to your usual discussion...

Holy crap, MarkSierra!

That sounds absolutely brutal!

When I woke here in NJ, the windchill was  3°F (-16°C).

Do you remember when, some years ago, we discussed trying to open a wormhole between our locations to send a flock of Galahs (pink cockatoos) thru?

Down Under, they’re considered nuisances to crops; here, they retail at $2000 each for pets. We’d split the difference to make a pretty penny (assuming the wormhole didn’t split the Earth in half.)

A wormhole to do an air exchange to equalize our temperatures is an interesting thought, though I suppose  we’d be risking Category 5 cyclones or Typhoons in our respective locations. 🤣

Trying to avoid uncomfortable situations, whether meteorological or political is difficult, no matter where you go.

It brings to mind the American family that was afraid of the US being drawn into WWII, so they left the country sometime in the late 1930's after carefully searching for a place out of harms way.  They settled in Guadalcanal.

The words “bomb cyclone” were bandied about on CNN. It sounds like there’s a chance we get some snow from it but the folks down in Coastal North Carolina could be in for a nasty blow.

oh oh

The Weather Channel forecast has changed to, we an't gonna get snow.  Just freezing cold.

Where do you get your car washed in this kind of cold?  I don't want my car coming out of the wash wet in this kind of cold.  Are there places where your car gets fully dried indoors before it rolls out?

Washing your car during snow season is a waste of time & $

Washing the undercarriage is most important. This should be done after ice is finished melting and washes treatment off the roads.
