Giant Melt Down

Did I somehow miss the discussion from Giants' fans on what happened in Dallas?

It just gets worse and worser as more information comes out.

"It was one thing when it appeared that the Giants’ merely brainfarted 40 extra seconds to the Cowboys for a game-winning drive that needed 33 of them. Now as players discuss the calls in the huddle and from the sideline, it’s so, so much worse: the Giants a) did not realize how many timeouts the Cowboys had, and b) told RB Rashad Jennings not to score a touchdown that would have put the game out of reach.

On second down, Jennings ran for one yard. To the Giants’ surprise, the referee announced that the Cowboys called their third and final timeout.

That’s when the Giants braintrust apparently panicked, realizing they wouldn’t be able to run the clock down to about 15 seconds by fourth down. So offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo called the fateful pass play, and neither he, nor Tom Coughlin, nor Eli Manning realized that if a receiver didn’t materialize, Manning should have taken the sack to keep the clock running. They had the full 40 seconds to figure this out and convey it to the QB; but no one thought of it.

This puts the Giants’ late-game follies in a new light. Perhaps things go very differently, perhaps it doesn’t come down to leaving too much time for Tony Romo, if the Giants merely tried to score from first-and-goal from the four.

We had a really good drive,” center Weston Richburg said after the contest. “We could have easily put it in. I don’t make any of those decisions.”

This is a pretty unforgivable mental meltdown from a team headed by a coach who’s supposed to specialize in discipline (and the importance of time management; if you’re not 15 minutes early to a Tom Coughlin meeting, you’re fined for being late), and a very bad start for a coach who might finally be on the hot seat."

Huh. Football started?

Let's Go Mets!!!!!

Actually, I think the Giants are still in the pre-season shake-down phase.

Either that or they were watching the scoreboard to see if the Mets once again came from behind and pulled off a fabulous victory.

Not sure if this link will work. My company blocks The Onion:

Giants Move Tom Coughlin To Assisted-Coaching Facility:

Giants could use Mariano Rivera to come close out the games...not panic button time as so many teams seem to be at 1-1 and 0-2. And it looks like a lot of teams didn't play pass defense yesterday around the league judging by a lot of the QB numbers.

Giants aside, this whole season so far is ruining my fantasy football game.

Giants in the middle, the annoying part is that they have clicked in both games, and blew it big time both times. The D needs to pick up the good energy when the O loses it and they haven't been able to.

You have to wonder what the hell is going on with the coaching staff. These are more than just routine mistakes, despite what Eli says. These are really poor decisions combined with exceptionally poor motivation and intensity--which are both under the purview of coaching.

At this point I'm presuming that Reuben Randle has some compromising pictures of Tom Coughlin as this is the only explanation why he is still in our starting line-up with 4 receptions and 25 yards while James Jones, a guy we gave back to the Packers, has scored 3 TDs in 2 games.

But you're right. Play-calling has been atrocious, and easy to read, especially in the rushing game. Jennings has been stuffed on almost every play, Vereen appears and you know it's going to be a screen. Williams deserves more field-time, averaging twice as much yardage as Jennings.

If Parker can't catch, he doesn't deserve to be there.

So frustrating.

Parker needs to go and go fast he's awful. He's supposed to be a special teams ace, but I haven't seen him make one special teams play, let alone catch the damn ball when it's thrown to him. Going to be a long season if they don't wake up.

Just read that Parker got dropped. They picked up a newDT.

New old DT. They previously released him.

The Giants have a knack for making player decisions based on extraneous factors that never seem to materialize. When they kept Nikita Whitlock over Henry Hynoski at fullback, I said, "They'll say they're keeping Whitlock because of all of the extra skills he has and then never use any of them."

I know it's way too early in the season to get overly enthusiastic, but: GO BOYS.

TomR

Coughlin will not be with the Giants in 2016. The Giants didn't give Eli $84 million to finish 7-9 every year.

Worth saying here, since I started this thread. They looked good this week. Good for them in righting the ship on this season.

14-2 then?

That would be 'incredible'

The offensive line played really well against what is considered to be one of the best defenses. I liked the offensive play calling...of course, they lacked consistency, but fortunately they were playing a classic Rex Ryan team -- lots of penalties due to inability to play fundamentally sound football, execute and stay in control emotionally.

I was out of the country for the first three games this season and was happily surprised by their play yesterday. Maybe they missed me? smile

Spags deserves a ton of credit. The personnel on D is not very good. There are no real pass rushers. We are doing it with mirrors.

Giants Faithful, it could always be worse.... you could be fans of the Cowboys.
