Garden Donations

The folks at the South Orange Elks Rent Party Garden want to get personal with you for just a minute. They were wondering, “Are your tomatoes terrific? Is your kale copious? Are you full of beans?”

If your home garden is producing too much produce and you are concerned that it will go to waste, Rent Party is asking you to consider donating it to them for distribution to the local food pantries they support. Produce can be dropped off at South Orange Elks Rent Party Garden at 220 Prospect Street, South Orange on Saturday mornings from 8 – 8:30, which is when volunteers harvest the raise-bed garden.

“We will sort and pack the produce you donate and we’ll make sure it gets to those who can use it,” says Director of Garden Operations, Karen Rutberg.

In its ninth season, the Garden is a partnership between Rent Party and the South Orange Elks. The Garden raised more than 2,000 pounds of fresh produce last year.

Rent Party Pantry, Inc. is a non-profit dedicated to fighting hunger in Maplewood/South Orange.

Is the South Orange community garden still active? I used to see people hauling huge amounts of produce out of there. Maybe print this out and post it on the gate?

Rent Party is tending to the South Orange Community Garden this summer and the results are SPECTACULAR! We thought that we'd just manage a handful of the beds, but our volunteers, led by Gabe Ribicoff, planted the whole darn thing. We'll start harvesting this in the next week or so and all of the produce will be given to folks here in our community.
