Foliage Hike(s)

Hi,

A couple of things:

A) What's your SINGLE most favorite foliage hike? Preferably 3-4 miles; waterfalls or lake; moderate difficulty; (3-6 on scale of 10). Especially want some photo ops.

B) I'm looking for A hiking buddy (maybe 2) for midweek moderate paced hikes along the lines above.

Thanks

South Mountain and Watchung Reservations, locally.

Most of the scenic hikes are also pretty difficult, but this hike is really nice (and NJHIKING.COM is a good resource.) and moderate. The elevation makes for some nice photo ops:

Glenhurst Nature trail, warren, N.J.

D & R Canal

Ken Lockwood Gorge

Duke Farms

Deserted Village trail off of Glenside Ave in Watchung Ave.

I am available Friday if you are interested in any of these.

Duke Farms -- I went there last weekend and the foliage was starting to turn and there was lots to see.

The Rattlesnake Swamp Trail to AT trail. It's a nice loop hike. Trailhead is near Mohican Outdoor Center. You go past Catfish Pond, through a swamp (wear hiking boots if it's been raining recently), up the Kittany Ridge to the fire tower. The views from the ridge looking east are awesome! There are bears in the area, so wear bells to let them know you're around.

  1. Ken Lockwood, and the state parks off 78, high point.
