Verizon forces me to see its own channel

This started about six months ago. We turn on the TV, and it opens on the channel Fios-1. For my entire life -- pre-digital TV and digital TV -- until this started, the TV turned on to the last channel watched. So, does Fios-1 get a ratings boost for the 10 seconds it's on before I change it? Or is Verizon assuming we're lazy and won't move to our intended channel? Or do they think their programming on Fios-1 is so captivating that we'll never surf away from it?

In any case, it's quite annoying, and I don't like that they're shoving us into their house. My husband was able to reprogram it so that it wouldn't do it, but then it just started up again on its own.

Any ideas on how to frustrate Verizon's efforts?

(I despise *everything* about Fios TV, the internet is the only thing that keeps me from not switching)

...when turn TV and box on, on our TVs its on the last channel watched.

Perhaps there is a "switch" somewhere?  (and that's what I despise -- their UI and web is f*ing awful)

Good luck

You might be able to fix this through a setting on the cable box. This was posted a few years ago, but maybe it still works:

Finally figured out how to remove Fios1 as the default channel on start up. Menu>Settings>System>Set-Top Box>Power On Channel. Press OK and you will have a choice of FIOS1 News Channel or Last Channel Viewed.

I just looked in the settings. It WAS set to "last channel viewed."  Still, it was starting on Fios-1.

I just  unselected "last channel viewed" then reselected it. Starts on last channel viewed now.

But we went through this same routine a few weeks ago, and it eventually reverted to starting on Fios-1 even though we did not change the setting. We'll see what happens this time.

First world problems.

Like, literally. I mean you don't hear people in Gambia complaining about this because FIOS doesn't have a service in Gambia, they have to rely on Gamtel and you know that Gamtel doesn't carry Restaurant Hunter, am I right?

First world problems. Then — the galaxy! Bwah ha ha.

If power is lost to that outlet,  it resets.  I have just given up on resetting all the  time.

however, I actually like the news reports on Fios 1.  Less nonsense and just the news vs what you get on  CBS, NBC or ABC.  And it focuses more on local news than  the others.
