Lizzo is hitting it big-time right now with the younger crowd.
I recently learned about her also.
I'm very much into music discovery and Tiny Desk is a great resource to learn about new music from around the country and around the world. What you learn from watching Tiny Desk concerts all day is how much hip-hop has infiltrated the music of the world, how much gorgeous fusion is going on and how many women are creating new and smart and funky music around the world (try the band OHMME.) .
Some of my favorites:
The key to Tiny Desk is to click on performers you've never heard of. Discover something new.Click on some women's performances. Give them a 15-minute chance to win you over. Then click another one. Then look to see if a band you've discovered is performing nearby. And go see them.

She has a small role in the new JLo epic, Hustlers.

Probably Ninet Tayeb (esp songs 1 and 3) and Anderson .Paak.
Just watched Ninet. Great, indeed.

Just watched Anderson .Paak. Such great grooves and rhythms. Hip-hop plus so much more.
Love Tiny Desk. Tyler the Creator and Chance the Rapper were great.
This morning I watched Trombone Shorty, really good, and, yes, Tom Tom Club. More like a country club but fun.
I remember seeing Moondog on the street in Manhattan when I was a young teenager. He was just standing there, not moving. I had no idea that he was a composer and musician. Didn't realize until a few years later when I got his 1969 record "Moondog." I listened to it a lot. It was the beginning of my interest in out-of-the-mainstream music. I think my next purchase was Coltrane's "Om."
For all the reggae fans out there, these are excellent

I loved the unrehearsed lefty-righty combo of Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett.

Wow, both reggae and both so different. Tarrus Reilly is so appealing - adorable.

I just stumbled on this one. I'm assuming she's famous but I never heard of her. Lizzo. Some profanity so be careful if you're listening at work. Check out minute 11 if you don't want to listen to the entire thing. Any other suggestions?

Lizzo's Truth Hurts is the current #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been for the last 4 weeks. The song was created in 2017 and just caught on in the last 4-6 months.
I read today that there have been 850+ Tiny Desk sessions and recordings. Wow. I could spend all day... I'd say that Tiny Desk is one of the very best ways to hear new music.
Checkout Phony PPL. From Brooklyn. Their song "Why iii Love the Moon" (at 14:35) is sooo nice. Here's the YouTube Official Video Such a warm, lovely groove.
