If there is an infant seat on the passenger side then the older child would need to enter/exit from the driver side. However, every time my kids enter/exit the car on public roadways or in parking lots I get out of the car and assist to make sure they do it safely.
Good point about the infant seat. But this kid was out of the car before the driver, who seemed to casually exit the car.
Yeah, that isn't cool. My six year old understands that in parking lots or on streets he has to wait for me. In the driveway he is allowed to jump out on his own.
this is very good advice .. earlier today I saw a parked woman open her door onto the street near the springfield mvc office and another driver passing the car slammed right into the door and kept going for a few more feet... had that been a child getting out, there would have likely been injury.

Just a head's up to the mother or nanny today at Tuscan school [4 pm] driving a Ford ? explorer w/ VA plates: you may want to instruct the ~4 yr old girl to exit the car on the passenger's side, instead of the driver's side, i.e.into the street. Probably should add that she should wait for you.
