Oh gorgeous - Thanks wedjet! imo worth gazing at even when the elk aren't there.
Think they are all in bed now. Will check tomorrow. I'm a huge elk fan. Thanks!
The big guy is out again, but audio is just crickets, chewing, stepping. Very pleasant soundtrack here indoors. Thanks again, wedjet.
They were out late tonight, having a snack. Saw the big guy with the antlers too.
Saw the bull again at 6:30 this morning. And bugling. He is at least an 8x8, maybe a 9x9 (refers to the number of points on each side). That is huge,
wj, is the loud squealing sound the bugling? somehow, i was expecting something more like a bellow or roar.
couple of elk just trotted through (including the bull), scattering a flock of ?turkeys, but it didn't sound like a turkey, more like a hawk, if anything, not as high-pitched though.
ETA: that's him all right.
ETA again: a second bull walked through the field, but (one of them) went off into the trees. Getting dark. Crickets.
Oh, the big guy was just giving us a good view of his butt. Then he looked around right into the camera and walked off with a bit of an indigent strut.
Yes the squealing sound is the bull's bugle. Also sounds like a trumpet.
Two white tail deer bucks were just in the field with one of the large bull elks. You can see the size
difference between the two.
Darn, I missed the deer. Maybe it was one of them I saw walking away, then.
ETA: wj, then is the other sound (not too different from a crow?) the females? Or is it the bull again, but not bugling?
fwiw, he seems a lot more interested in them than they are in him. Maybe they all have headaches.
7:18 a.m. --- about 9 are now entering the field. Bull, 4 does and 4 calves.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission has recently installed a Live Cam in the elk range of Northcentral Pa. Best chance to see elk is in the early AM or late afternoon. As of this posting time, the elk are out and feeding. Enjoy.
