discolored ceiling around ceiling shower light

About a year ago, we had our shower remodeled.  It was a totally tile shower with no ceiling fan in the bathroom.  Now the ceiling is painted and their is a fan outside the shower.  A few weeks ago, I noticed a discoloration around the light in the shower indicating I would think some kind of leak.  There are no pipes above the ceiling.  How do we find out where the leak is coming from?  The guy who did the shower said he'll text us and stop by but I don't trust that he will based on his history while doing the job.

If there is a roof or outside wall directly above the ceiling begin with roof and gutters being that theres no pipes that could be leaking.

Kitaba can you share a picture?

I agree with the 18th letter. A further question - when the contractor installed the ceiling fan, did the put the vent to the outside in the roof? That could be leaking.

A third possibility.  The warm moist air from the room is hitting the colder exhaust pipe walls and condensing, dripping back into the fan assembly.  At that point the drywall may be absorbing it.

There may be some point to what you are saying here as I also find some bits of white coming from the fan.

Yes, he put a vent for the fan.

But the question is, did he vent it outside? Or did he just let the fan blow the moisture up into the space above the bathroom. Could be condensation around the recessed light canister directly above the shower. You will have to pull that recessed light down, it comes down easily, with two clips holding it up into the canister housing. Definitely the moisture in the shower is not getting out through the exhaust fan. He's not gonna come back if he didn't vent it properly. Good luck

He did vent to the outside.

Seal around the vent pipe might be leaking.  Possibly only when the rain is coming from a certain direction.

That's kind of what I was thinking, especially if it's a roof vent.
