costco ?

Quite a while ago I went to Costco Rte. 10 about a question at the photo counter.  I told the greeter  that i'm not a member.  She said the photos are a concession and I don't have to be a member.  Last week I went to the costco on Rte. 22.  when I asked the greeter for photos she just pointed me in right direction without asking for a card.   A woman at the counter said I couldn't complete my business bc I'm not a member.

Does anyone here KNOW for sure what's right?

Thanks

Both could be right if company-wide policy has changed or if each location sets its own policy.  What happened when you contacted the route 10 location to ask if their policy had changed since your last visit?

My understanding is that you have to be a member to use any of the facilities at any Costco.  Don't think you're even allowed in without a membership card.

You do not have to be a member to use their pharmacy, or purchase gas.

What I was after was/is a printer cartridge refill.  My visit to rte 10 was more than a year ago.  As I mentioned the greeter said I don't/didn't need to be a member; clerk at ther photo counter said the same thing.

I recently went to ret 22 bc website says refill service at rte 10 is temporarily unavailable.  While at 22 a customer also said that we don't have to be members to shop there.  Costco's website doesn't address this issue for photos, and has mixed messages elsewhere.  For example, you don't have to be a member to have your eyes examined, but you have to be to buy glasses (at least according to the website).  What happens IRL is a matter of what the 'clerk gods' dictate!!!

pharmacy and eye exams are regulated and have to be available to the general public.  In NJ the law requires that gas be available to the public when it is being sold.

Some of the Costco's were leasing out the space for photos as well as other things.  Simple rule is if you have to pay for a service at the main register then you need to be a member.

I am guessing the rte 10 store kicked out the vendor for whatever reason.

There was a time when you could get a mobile phone right at the phone kiosk but now you have to pay at the main register.  Also if there are any special promotions, those have to be done at the main register.

For the most part I think the membership is worth the $60 and I often buy online from them and avoid the hassle (and you need to be a member to buy online).
