yep, actually this kind of stuff has been happening for many years. I worked at trading firms and exchanges and it is not uncommon for trading to be halted at a given exchange. As noted by the NYSE, you can still trade NYSE securities on other exchanges while their system is down.

Damn those Greeks. Economic terrorism. To initiate 12 billion sell orders, 32 trillion dollars in sell orders, clogging the system is beyond the pale. They don't even own the stocks they sold.

I fly United from Newark to Buffalo for work about 4 times a year - more as I have a new housing deal there. Every single time United flights are delayed - anywhere from a few minutes to (yesterday) 3.5 hours. No reason is ever given. For me it is only option for nonstop without driving to JFK which is longer than the flight.
