Cavalier Cedar Chest with keepsake lock

I purchased the above chest in college at a Goodwill on Mass. Ave., Cambridge. Never had a key or combo. Believe the seller said that it didn't come with one but it always opened, which it did...until it didn't. Fast forward 30+ years later and for the first time ever, it locked. I've called locksmiths who have all told me there was nothing to be done. I don't want to ruin it trying to jimmy it open, but I'm at a loss. Any ideas? Suggestions?

To open a combination lock? Don't think so but thanks.

oh-didn't see that it was a combination lock-you did mention a key.

good luck though

Nope. Two locksmiths came over and zip zero. Will call our carpenter to see if he can get the trim off the lid, making it easier to access the inside lock.
