Cabinet Picks

I'm very excited about the Cabinet Picks. Any ideas, any guesses? Many of us liked the idea of Kamala Harris as AG. So now that she has a different position, anybody have an opinion on that spot or any of the others?

I wouldn't get too excited. Biden's cabinet picks have to be approved by the senate which will likely be Republican. I don't expect them to approve progressives.

I’m thinking Sally Yates. Doug Jones is a good pick also, but he’s in the senate. Anybody fired by Trump has to be good.

I'll go further.

Obama nominated Garland to the SC. He was selected as a middle of the road jurist, not a progressive, in the hope the senate would consent. What did Obama get for his compromise? A big FU.

We may see even middle of the road cabinet picks being rejected.

I hope I'm wrong.

A Republican Senator from a State with a Democratic Governor in order to get an additional Senate seat.

He could go Trump's route and appoint them as acting heads.

I agree.

Don't even negotiate. If the senate rejects his pick don't bother to select someone else in the hope the senate may accept. Instead, say, I will therefore appoint my nominee as a recess appointment.

He can do recess appointments whenever Pelosi recesses the house.

Attorney General Obama?

It's a big relief - here's a comparison with who we had with Trump:

The list has checks next to those who have been approved or do not need approval. Is there anyone on there who will have a problem?

I'm hoping Marcia Fudge tells us what Ben Carson was doing for four years in HUD. It was the silent department. The only meeting with congress that I remember him attending was the one with Katy Porter grilling him. And the only way we may find out, will be if she contrasts her new initiatives with his lack of them.

Pretty sure the Rs have a problem with Becerra.

They’ve already rolled.

I mean, if I’m pronouncing it right.

I'm happy to see this thread come up and be reminded of how my pessimistic assumptions on Senate elections -- and subsequent Republican obstruction -- turned out to be incorrect. Thank you, Georgia voters and organizers.

Giant a$$hole Raphael Cruz has put a hold on Gina's R's nomination, yet another grandstanding event by the irrepressible and universally-hated senator from TX. My tiny adopted state has two great senators in Reed and Whitehouse and we'd like to add Gina as a cabinet member.

Fave quote about Raphael from Al Franken: I like Ted Cruise more than any other senator; and I fcuking hate Ted Cruise.

I hate to correct you, but the actual quote is:

“I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz.”

Your version is a slam on the whole Senate, not on Cruz.

Eh, yeah, you kind of butchered that one my friend

Love Sheldon Whitehouse! As a matter of fact I loved Al Franken. Thought the Dems made a huge mistake.

Thanks. Should've googled it before trusting my faulty memory and syntax.

 Agree on both.

Fresh Air did a show about Franken a while back.  Upon thorough investigation, it turns out that the charges against him were almost entirely fabricated.  A huge win for the women abusing right.

Am I remembering correctly that Gillibrand was a major Franken antagonist during her "presidential aspirations" period.

Smart guy.I loved watching him in the Senate.  I follow him a bit on FB.

I thought the whole thing was blown out of proportion and was totally disgusted with the direction the Me Too movement had taken. Too many frivolous charges took away focus on those with serious allegations. And as @GL2 pointed out Gillibrand took the reins. I had a tough time letting that go when she threw her hat in the ring for a run at the nomination.

I often think it's a shame that more people don't tune in to the Senate or House in session on occasion. They leave it to the clips chosen by the news media. So a good debate or point raised at a hearing may go unnoticed. Had I not made a habit of getting some of my Congressional news first hand, I might not have discovered another favorite Senator, Sherrod Brown.
