Best place to watch the meteor shower around SO/Maplewood?

The Perseid meteor shower tonight, and I'm looking for a good open field that give the best views of the sky. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The Oval (but don't tell anyone I told you)

so what happens if someone drives into the oval tonight? is it unlawful to do so? the rez and park signs all say, ''Closes at dusk'' but what would happen if a bunch of people showed up to watch the meteorite shower? i guess the police would chase every one out?

So, how was it? I was sound asleep.

We used to go to the quarry, but somebody snuck in some uggggly oversized townhouses and street lights. Feh.

Ideas? Anyone going to watch? If so, what time?

I just saw three meteors in about 30 minutes (plus one car running a stop sign at full speed.) Going out again later

Did you see them from your home or go somewhere in the area? I have sometimes gone up into that parking lot in the reservation near the dog park. Thinking about doing that tonight.

I watched from my back yard. With no moon, the sky was dark enough the last two nights to see pretty well, although I'm sure it would be much more spectacular in a true'dark sky' location. I saw several really bright meteors, plus a bunch of fainter ones, shooting across the sky both nights -- magical, well worth a little lost sleep!

I woke up at 2:10am and thankfully remembered the shower. I looked out from my back yard and only saw 2 shooting stars in about 15 minutes. But the sky was full of stars and breathtaking -- I forgot how nice the night sky looks when you get out of the NY Metro area.

I saw mine from my side yard, then I went out from 1:30-2:00 am and didn't see any. It seemed to be pretty cloudy.

@critterlover - I've often driven up to the oval to watch meteor showers and no one has ever asked me to leave. ETA - Hubby and I are going up to the res tonight at 11 PM to watch the shower. We plan to park at the dog park and walk over to the oval.

Is anyone at the Res now? Want company?

Is the Oval really better than Bramhall terrace for viewing?

We just got back from being up at the res. It would have been great to have company. There were a couple of people near the dog park. Hubby saw one meteor. I saw none. I think there's more light interference from the east on Bramhall Terrace.

Let's see if tomorrow will be better... that would be an unofficial MOL F2F... without alcohol.

My daughter (just arrived in town for a brief visit) and I went up to the reservation around 11:30 and only saw a couple of meteors in 20 minutes or so. Disappointing ... but it was a nice night and nice time together anyway.

Does the shower continue tonight? Is it worth staying up late and trying to find a dark place? or is it past time to see anything?

@Max- how long will these meteor showers last?

Tonight's NWS forecast is 'Partly Cloudy' tonight; T-storms tomorrow. I may go tonight... will def go if there's company.

@Apollo_T: If you let me know where you'll be to look for shooting stars and when, I'll let you know if there will be any company.

Still trying to determine if there will be anything to see tonight.

@juniemoon,

Sky should be dark enough by 10:00 PM. Figure the parking lot by the dog pile. I will pm in a few mins.

Is this still happening tonight???

Might be. Last night was a bust-- way tooooo cloudy. Around 10 PM go out look at the sky. That should tell you.
